Elite Talent Hub Recruitment is recruiting a Deputy Steel Yard & Warehouse Supervisor on behalf of our client one of Irelands leading distribution and wholesale companies.

Job Overview

The Deputy Steel Yard & Warehouse Supervisor will support the daily operations of the Steel Yard and Warehouse working closely with the existing Supervisor and the wider operations team. This role offers a structured path for career development. You will work alongside an experienced leader to gain deep operational knowledge progressively taking on greater responsibility and building the skills needed for future leadership opportunities.

We are looking for a reliable hardworking and hands-on professional who is eager to learn. While previous supervisory experience is a plus the right attitude and work ethic are highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Team Support

• Daily Coordination: Work with the Supervisor to manage day-to-day yard and warehouse activities.
• Logistics & Planning: Help plan and organize loads for efficient delivery and dispatch.
• Order Fulfillment: Assist with goods-inwards tracking material handling and order preparation.
• Transport Coordination: Liaise with logistics teams regarding deliveries and customer collections.
• Material Flow: Work with the team to maintain efficient movement of products and keep work areas clean and safe.

Stock & Systems

• Goods Inward: Accurately document all incoming stock and report any damaged or missing materials.
• Inventory Tracking: Update and maintain correct stock records using the companys ERP system.
• Stock Control: Participate in regular stock takes and cycle counts.
• Product Expertise: Develop a thorough knowledge of the companys steel product range and storage protocols.

Team & Leadership Development

• Skills Progression: Learn all operational areas to build comprehensive supervisory capabilities.
• Leadership Step-up: Provide support and direction to colleagues as your skills grow taking on ownership of specific areas.
• Coverage: Deputise for the Supervisor during their absence or when required.

Safety & Operational Leadership

• Safety Culture: Promote a strict workplace safety culture in compliance with health and safety laws.
• Safe Handling: Oversee and follow safe procedures for moving and storing heavy steel items.
• Equipment Operation: Safely operate forklifts multi-directional forklifts and overhead cranes (once trained and authorized).

Continuous Improvement

• Process Review: Learn existing workflows and identify ways to improve speed service and accuracy.
• Problem Solving: Contirbute practical ideas to handle day-to-day yard and warehouse challenges.

Job Requirements

Essential:

• Strong work ethic and a direct hands-on operational approach.
• Highly reliable responsible and comfortable taking ownership of tasks.
• Excellent teamwork and clear communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Quick learner who adapts well to new technical knowledge and software systems.
• Full driving license.
• Flexibility to work overtime when needed to meet operational demands.

Desirable:

• Experience working in a steel yard warehouse or high-volume distribution facility.
• Direct experience handling steel products.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience operating forklifts multi-directional forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Familiarity using an ERP or warehouse management system.
