Job Summary
- Provide expert nursing assessment and triage for oncology patients presenting with treatment-related symptoms complications or concerns.
- Conduct telephone and face-to-face triage assessments determining the urgency of care required and initiating appropriate interventions.
- Monitor assess and manage patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapies including chemotherapy immunotherapy and targeted treatments.
- Identify and respond promptly to oncological emergencies escalating care when clinically indicated.
- Coordinate patient care pathways and facilitate timely access to diagnostic tests specialist reviews and treatment services.
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care in accordance with national guidelines hospital policies and oncology best practices.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans symptom management potential side effects and self-care strategies.
- Act as a key resource and clinical expert for patients carers and multidisciplinary team members.
- Collaborate closely with oncologists nurses pharmacists allied health professionals and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation and patient records.
- Participate in service development quality improvement initiatives clinical audits and risk management activities.
- Support the implementation of patient safety and infection prevention measures within the oncology service.
- Contribute to staff education mentorship and professional development within the oncology department.
- Promote patient advocacy ensuring care is delivered with dignity respect and a patient-centred approach.
- Engage in continuous professional development to maintain specialist oncology and triage knowledge and competencies.
- Registered on the General Division of the Register of Nurses maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- A minimum of five years post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Hold a recognised qualification relevant to the oncology nursing specialty.
- At least three years clinical experience within the field of Medical Oncology.
- A minimum of two years management or leadership experience in an oncology outpatient and/or inpatient setting.
- Proven experience using the UKONS Triage Assessment Tool to assess and manage oncology patients.
- Working knowledge of risk management clinical audit processes quality improvement initiatives and healthcare quality metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse clinical data evaluate nursing practice and implement evidence-based improvements.
- Proven clinical expertise and professional competence in oncology nursing.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong IT proficiency including the effective use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel and PowerPoint.

Required Skills:
