Job Summary
We are currently hiring a Clinical Nurse Specialist-Diabetes to join a leading hospital in South Dublin Ireland.

Responsibilities
- Assess plan implement and evaluate high-quality nursing care for patients with Type 1 Type 2 and complex diabetes ensuring optimal clinical outcomes.
- Support the initiation titration and ongoing management of insulin therapy and diabetes medications in collaboration with endocrinologists and the multidisciplinary team.
- Provide specialist diabetes care through outpatient clinics inpatient consultations telephone support and patient self-management programmes.
- Educate patients families and healthcare staff on diabetes management medications lifestyle modifications continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and insulin pump therapy.
- Work collaboratively with the Diabetes ANP Diabetes CNS endocrinologists and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualised care plans and service improvements.
- Develop implement and maintain evidence-based diabetes pathways protocols and clinical standards to enhance patient safety and quality of care.
- Coordinate seamless patient care across primary secondary and community healthcare services supporting safe admissions transfers and discharge planning.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical decision-making skills manage an independent caseload and provide specialist advice in the management of complex diabetes cases.
- Participate in clinical audit research quality improvement initiatives and accreditation activities promoting evidence-based practice and continuous service development.
- Act as a mentor preceptor and professional role model for students and newly appointed staff while maintaining professional competence mandatory training requirements and ongoing professional development.
- Current registration as a Registered General Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) and in good professional standing.
- A recognised post-registration qualification relevant to diabetes care at Level 9 (desirable) such as a Graduate Diploma in Diabetes Nursing or a commitment to undertake such a programme within an agreed timeframe.
- A minimum of five years post-registration nursing experience in an acute medical setting.
- At least two years experience in diabetes nursing including the management of patients with complex diabetes needs (desirable).
- Experience and knowledge in the use of insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems (desirable).
- Demonstrated teaching leadership critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to support patients families and healthcare professionals.
- Excellent organisational multitasking and time-management abilities with a proven capacity to prioritise workload effectively.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills including the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while demonstrating initiative flexibility innovation and adaptability to change.
- Up-to-date clinical knowledge and recent relevant experience in diabetes care with an understanding of service development evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
