Who We Are

Gheel Autism Services CLG supports over 370 autistic adults across Dublin North Kildare and Wicklow through residential supported living day transition and community services. Founded in 1971 and funded by the HSE under Section 39 of the Health Act 2004 we are a non-profit organisation working to a single purpose: supporting people to live long healthy meaningful lives in ordinary community.

About the Role

This is a senior nursing leadership role. Its purpose is to lead the development of an integrated model of health and wellbeing support across Gheel - balancing our focus on people being safe healthy and well with our commitment to promoting autonomy choice and access to community life.

Above all this role is about leadership coaching and systems. You will lead and coach a small nursing team and build the structures frameworks and oversight that enable good health and wellbeing support to happen consistently across the service.

As the senior nurse in the organisation you will set standards assure competence advocate for the health of the people we support and build the partnerships and connections between our services and the wider health system that make good health possible. A central expectation of this role is the active prevention of diagnostic overshadowing - ensuring that an autistic persons real health needs are never dismissed or mis-attributed to being autistic.

You will also design and embed the governance and oversight systems that give Gheel reliable assurance on health and wellbeing support compliance with HIQA standards and Regulation 6 requirements and plan ahead for peoples changing needs as they age.

Essential Qualifications

• Registered Nurse on the live register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) - RNID RGN or RPN as relevant to the post

Essential Criteria:

• A minimum of 5 years post-registration nursing experience including experience relevant to intellectual disability autism or community/social care nursing

• At least 2 years experience in a leadership supervisory or management role with evidence of leading coaching and developing nursing or care staff

• A sound understanding of HIQA regulation the Regulation 6 health-care duty NMBI scope of practice and the Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015

• A demonstrable values-led commitment to social justice rights-based and neuro-affirmative practice

• Strong communication advocacy coaching and partnership-building skills and the organisational skill to design and embed systems and oversight

• A full clean drivers licence and access to own car given the role spans services across Dublin North Kildare and Wicklow

Desirable Criteria:

• A nursing management or practice-development qualification or a willingness to work toward one within an agreed timeframe

• Experience of health promotion ageing-in-place or palliative and end-of-life care in a disability or social care setting

• Experience building partnerships with primary care community health or acute services

• Understanding of supported decision-making and accessible communication including AAC
