Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the Oncology Day Unit ensuring safe high-quality patient care.
  • Assess patient care needs allocate workloads and delegate duties according to staff competencies and professional guidelines.
  • Administer chemotherapy cytotoxic medications IV cannulation and venepuncture in line with hospital policies and safety protocols.
  • Provide patient and family education on chemotherapy treatments care plans and available cancer support services.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation monitor risk management processes and manage complaints effectively.
  • Lead supervise and support nursing staff healthcare assistants and students while promoting professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Communicate effectively with the Clinical Nurse Manager and multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in staff orientation clinical education mandatory training and performance reviews to maintain high clinical standards.
  • Promote compliance with NMBI standards HSE guidelines hospital policies and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative patient-centred environment through strong leadership teamwork and continuous service improvement.


Requirements
  • Current NMBI General Nurse registration in good standing.
  • Recognised post-registration qualification in Oncology Nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years clinical experience in Oncology Nursing with 5 years experience preferred.
  • Competency in venepuncture cannulation and the administration of cytotoxic drugs.
  • Recent and relevant experience in an acute hospital oncology setting.
  • Strong leadership teaching critical thinking problem-solving and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of change management principles and national nursing strategies.
  • Strong planning organisational and time management skills with a flexible approach to rostering and rotations.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and keeping up to date with advances in oncology nursing.
