Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is a model 4 voluntary academic teaching hospital partnered with Trinity College and situated in south west Dublin. With a staff of over 4000 people from 63 differentcountries it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800000 people and is a provider of local regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.

The Hospital is part of the newly established HSE Dublin & Midlands Region which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties and operates under the governance of an independent Board of Directors who give their time on a voluntary basis. TUH is also supported by the Adelaide Health Foundation the Meath Foundation and Tallaght University Hospital Foundation.

Purpose of the Role:
The Basic Grade Physiotherapist will work with patients affected by injury illness or disability through movement and exercise manual therapy education and advice. Theyfacilitate the maintenance of health for people of all ages working with patients to manage pain and prevent disease.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Undertake an appropriate assessment draw up individual treatment plans and provide effective treatment to all referred patients to the speciality
  • Ensure that privacy and dignity of the patient is respected at all times
  • Liaise with patients carers and other health professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care
  • Maintain good communications with Consultants General Practitioners and community care team members for early discharge and adequate follow - up
  • Keep abreast with current changes in clinical practice by attending seminars conferences and post-graduate courses
  • Maintain an accurate record-keeping system to comply with legal requirements to support clinical studies and to provide information for data collection
  • Participate in weekend bank holiday and on-call rota
  • Attend clinics team meetings and / or ward rounds when necessary
  • Deputise for senior when necessary

Administration
  • Keep records appropriate to his/her office as may be required
  • Participate in clinical audit activities to monitor clinical standards
  • Ensure safe working environment for patients and staff and report immediately any accident either staff or patient
  • Read and act upon all issued staff policies
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned to her/him by the Physiotherapy Manager


Qualifications & Experience required

Must have:
  • Hold a Physiotherapy qualification recognised by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU. Please see list of acceptable Physiotherapy qualifications:
registered on the Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU
  • Final year graduates who are eligible for registration with CORU in the coming six months may apply. However any offer of employment would be subject to successfully receiving registration.
  • And
    • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
    • On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on Physiotherapists Register maintained by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU
    • Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC)
    • Must have avalidEU work permit/visa

    Desirable:
    • Recent acute hospital experience
    • Demonstrate recent evidence of formal clinical continuing professional development
    • On-call competent


    Reward & Recognition
    • Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales grade code 314X.
    • A panel will be formed for fulltime & part-time temporary positions.
    • The annual leave entitlement is 27 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.
    • Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to changeto meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
