Job Summary

To support the Griffith Institute of Language (GIL) Academic Manager in leading and managing all GIL teachers by encouraging supporting and challenging teachers to maintain and raise the already high academic standards with a commitment to excellence in education learner support and continuous improvement.

Job Responsibilities

General:

  • To support the Academic Manager in managing the academic and administrative life of GIL.
  • To develop and implement the educational philosophy of the school and to promote a culture of best practice.
  • Encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment that reflects the values Griffith institute of Language
  • Support the Academic Manager and take on delegated responsibilities during their absence

Teaching and learning:

  • Help develop and review curriculum syllabi and teaching materials.
  • Support teachers with lesson planning materials and curriculum delivery.
  • Help ensure classes are aligned with CEFR levels and meet the needs of different learner profiles.
  • Maintain a positive proactive team environment among teaching staff.
  • Support preparation for English exams (such as TIE IELTS or Cambridge exams).
  • To cover lessons when required to do so.
  • Encourage lecturers and the academic team to engage with students through virtual learning platforms and forums (e.g. Moodle).

Admin:

  • To complete all administrative tasks required efficiently.
  • Assist with student placement testing and class allocation
  • Help with inducting new teaching staff and providing ongoing academic support throughout the course.
  • To assist the Academic Manager with student class assignment.
  • Make sure teachers are up to date with administrative procedures including attendance registers learning outcomes and progress reports.
  • Conduct student and teacher feedback

Minimum Qualifications / Experience Required (in line with TrustEd Ireland requirements)

  • CELTA qualification or equivalent
  • MA in ELT/TESOL
  • A bachelors degree (NFQ Level 7 or above)
  • 35 years English language teaching experience
  • English language competence at CEFR C2 level (or equivalent) if English is not their first language
  • Must be legally entitled to work full-time in Ireland for any employer.
