Site Reliability Engineer
Job Summary
Site Reliability Engineer (GCP / GKE) – Payments Platform
Location: Mumbai Work mode: Onsite Experience: 3 years Employment type: Full-time
About the opportunity
Our client is building a payments platform that has to stay up and secure while it scales to 50 million transactions a day. The systems team runs the cloud foundation underneath it: GCP Kubernetes networking security and monitoring.
As a Site Reliability Engineer you will own that infrastructure from start to finish. That means designing and building it right the first time then keeping it reliable in production. You’ll work closely with network providers banking partners vendor support teams and internal project teams.
Key responsibilities
Cloud infrastructure
- Set up and build out a Google Cloud (GCP) Landing Zone
- Make infrastructure changes through Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and automation scripts
- Keep environments consistent version-controlled and audit-ready
Kubernetes (GKE)
- Design set up and configure GKE clusters for production workloads
- Handle scaling capacity planning and troubleshooting of cluster and application errors
- Keep clusters healthy patched and optimised
Networking
- Design and implement VPCs peering segmentation load balancers and Cloud Interconnect
- Find and fix connectivity issues
- Triage incidents together with network teams interconnect providers and banking partners
Security and monitoring
- Implement monitoring logging and alerting using Cloud Monitoring/Logging (Stackdriver) and Security Command Center
- Track access uptime and failures and apply security best practices
- Build dashboards and alerts that catch problems before customers notice them
Third-party tools
- Implement and manage enterprise next-gen firewalls (Check Point): rules alerts and timely upgrades
- Set up and configure Redis Enterprise
- Manage Envoy Proxy configuration using Ansible
- Work with vendor support teams to resolve issues and roll out changes
Incident management and operations
- Respond to and resolve critical incidents including outages affecting many users
- Keep customers updated proactively under SLA-based engagements
- Write root-cause analyses (RCAs) and put permanent fixes in place
What we’re looking for
Must have
- 3 years of hands-on experience in SRE DevOps or cloud infrastructure covering both building and running production systems
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (GKE preferred) in production
- Infrastructure as Code with Terraform
- Solid networking fundamentals: VPCs subnets routing load balancing firewalls and DNS
- Experience with monitoring logging and alerting tools
- Scripting in Bash or Python or both
- Real on-call and incident-handling experience in production
Good to have
- Google Cloud experience especially Landing Zone setup and Cloud Interconnect
- Check Point or another enterprise firewall (Palo Alto Fortinet)
- Redis or Redis Enterprise setup and configuration
- Envoy Proxy and Ansible for configuration management
- Experience in payments banking fintech or another high-transaction environment
- Exposure to chaos engineering
Certifications (preferred not mandatory)
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) / Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- Google Cloud Associate Cloud Engineer Professional Cloud Architect or Professional Cloud Network Engineer
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
Work schedule – please read
- This is a production support role with rotational shifts and variable week-offs
- You need to be available for incidents outside working hours
- Support may be needed on national and local holidays based on business needs
- You should be comfortable working calmly under pressure during critical incidents
Why join
- Scale: build systems for India-scale payments with a target of 50 million transactions a day
- Learn from first principles: an internal “school” for distributed systems that speeds up how fast you learn
- Production is your playground: use modern chaos engineering to break systems on purpose find weak points and make them resilient
- Ownership: you design it run it and improve it not just maintain someone else’s setup
- Team culture: work with people who want to understand how things really work
Who will thrive here
- System builders who think from first principles
- Chaos engineers who’d rather bring a system down on purpose than have it fail by surprise
- Responsible SREs who want to be confident that what they build stays up
