The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger. WFP reaches more than 100 million people every day - delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with smallholder farmers communities and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.

The WFP Innovation Accelerator was named by Fast Company as Best Workplace for Innovators 2023 for its work in identifying nurturing and scaling disruptive start-ups and innovations to end global hunger. Based in Munich Germany the Innovation Accelerator provides WFP employees and start-ups with funding hands-on support and access to WFPs global operations. Through the Accelerator WFP is leveraging unprecedented advances in digital innovation - such as mobile technology artificial intelligence and blockchain - and new business models to transform the way it serves vulnerable communities across the 2023 Accelerator supported innovations that positively impacted the lives of more than 607 million people globally. The Accelerator runs programmes with external partners such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation the German government and others.

UNIN Team Management

• Supervise guide and manage the UN Innovation Network team
• Define goals and workplans for the UN Innovation Network team and ensure their implementation
• Manage the UNIN Budget

Support the UN 2.0 Agenda

Regularly liaise with the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) and UN 2.0 community

• managers to ensure alignment in implementing the UN 2.0 and driving the innovation agenda
• Support the development and updating of training events and campaigns raising awareness about the UN 2.0 agenda
• Support the programme for UN 2.0 award winners in collaboration with EOSG

Establish and Scale UN Groups

• Oversee and provide strategic guidance on UN Groups including the existing groups on (1) Behavioral Science (2) Digital (3) Scaling Innovation and (4) Blockchain. Activities may include:
  • Conceptualizing and hosting webinars / events
  • Supporting the development of briefs resources guides toolkits and podcasts
  • Identifying Entitys needs and developing tailored offerings to respond to them
  • Hosting UN-wide weeks e.g. UN BeSci Week
• Represent the Groups in internal and external meetings
• Nurture partnerships with external partners

Support Innovation and Exchange across the UN system

• Support ongoing innovation efforts across the UN family including by providing strategic guidance highlighting opportunities for collaboration and facilitating connections
• Identify key innovation trends plan and facilitate regular knowledge sharing events exploring these
• Compile and publish the UN Innovation Updates highlighting innovation efforts from across the UN
• Form relationships with key non-UN actors in the field of innovation and identify and create opportunities to bring their knowledge and expertise into the Network
• Manage external facing communications of the UN Innovation Network including the website X and LinkedIn accounts

Business Operations

• Work with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth continuity of UNINs operations
• Maintain and further develop UNINs digital platform management leveraging AI and automations to reduce manual work where possible

Education:

The candidate must have a completed Bachelors and Masters degree

Experience:

At least 10 years of progressively responsible international experience international development-related position with at least 8 years experience of working in the UN system. Experience in innovation community management or partnerships is required. Work experience in developing countries is an asse

Knowledge & Skills:

• Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy
• Strong conceptual thinking to develop new strategies and innovative projects
• Collaborative spirit able to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels and across different cultures
• Able to manage agile distributed teams across a broad spectrum of topics
• Strong time management skills with an ability to plan anticipate requirements problems and obstacles and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully and to work to tight deadlines
• Strong focus on results and the ability to achieve targets within given and at times short time frames
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality materials including blog posts websites videos and graphically based presentations
• Strong analytical abilities both quantitative and qualitative
• Understanding of common challenges of working on data innovation / innovation with the UN
• Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the United Nations including through leveraging data and innovation

Languages:

High proficiency in written and spoken English; knowledge of a second UN language is a plus.
