We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (m/f/d) Instrumentation & Controls BESS to support the development and execution of large-scale battery energy storage projects. This role focuses on the design integration and optimization of control systems for balance-of-plant (BoP) systems as well as battery control architectures. The objective is to ensure safe reliable and high-performance operation throughout the entire project lifecycle.
About the role
- Overall responsibility for the complete technical implementation of battery control systems and balance-of-plant systems across the entire project lifecycle including EMS HMI databases communication networks as well as all safety and instrumentation systems.
- Independent development and evaluation of conceptual designs translating functional and project-specific requirements into detailed technical specifications for control architectures communication interfaces BoP systems and network topologies.
- Preparation review and coordination of technical documentation including design packages equipment specifications control descriptions network diagrams and cost estimates in close collaboration with other engineering disciplines and procurement.
- Independent management of technical interfaces between control components BoP systems and external stakeholders while ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards grid requirements cybersecurity regulations as well as health safety and environmental standards.
- Acting as the primary technical authority during commissioning supervising on-site activities and supporting a smooth handover to operations in close coordination with the Site Construction Manager.
Job requirements and experience
- Degree in engineering (electrical engineering automation process engineering or a comparable field) or equivalent professional experience (minimum 5 years).
- Solid knowledge in control and instrumentation (C&I) with proven experience in successfully delivering technical projects in the energy or power sector; experience in renewable energy projects is highly desirable.
- Expertise in control system integration.
- Strong ability to coordinate with suppliers including evaluation of technical proposals clarification of requirements communication and ensuring timely delivery of equipment and services.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity as well as health safety and environmental standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with stakeholder management capabilities.
- Analytical innovative and solution-oriented working style combined with excellent time management resilience intercultural competence and fluency in English as well as good German skills.
