Research TechnicianLab Manager (maternity cover)

Theresearch group of Alba Diz-Muñozat the Cell Biology and Biophysics Unit ofEMBL Heidelbergis seeking a Lab Manager/Technician for assistance with routine lab tasks and management of lab resources. Dependent on prior experience it is foreseen that the Lab Manager/Technician would participate in more advanced cell biology and biophysical measurements and in particular experiments related to lipid biology and cell membrane mechanics. Our international and enthusiastic team performs high quality research in the areas of cell biology biophysics and medicine with a particular interest in the role of mechanics at the interface between the cell and its surroundings.

YOUR ROLE

• Management of general lab resources

• Assistance of lab members with cell culture work including generation of stable cell lines

• Routine genetic engineering (e.g. restriction cloning gibson assembly)

• Co-organize scientific and teaching events such as small workshops courses and conferences

• The position could also include involvement in advanced lab techniques such as state of the art live imaging protein micropatterning or atomic force microscopy

YOU HAVE

• A completed training as lab technician with several years of work experience or a university degree with additional lab experience or a PhD in life sciences or biophysics.

• Experience in cell biology and lipid biology.

• Prior experience in live imaging is an advantage.

• Excellent skills in organisation documentation and reporting as well as the ability to work pro-actively across a broad range of functions in a dynamic international and interdisciplinary environment

• Good interpersonal skills and solid written and spoken English. German language skills are not essential.

• Former qualifications and/or work experience in lab management are an advantage

Contract length: 8 months (absence coverage)

Salary: Grade 4 5 or 6; depending on experience and qualifications (monthly salary starting from 370483 - 458037 after tax before German social security contribution)
