Job Summary

The Scope
We are looking for an engagedMonitoring Evaluation and Learning Manager who brings strong expertise in monitoring evaluation research and data analysis as well as a passion for FSCs mission to work with us in a multinational environment.

The Monitoring Evaluation and Learning Manager plays a key role in advancing FSCs outcome-oriented approach by developing and implementing monitoring frameworks analyzing data and generating evidence-based insights to support decision-making. The position collaborates closely with FSC staff Network Partners researchers and other stakeholders to design monitoring programs synthesize scientific evidence manage data and reporting platforms and communicate complex findings in a clear and actionable manner. Through these efforts the MEL Manager helps strengthen FSCs ability to measure impact drive continuous improvement and enhance the effectiveness and credibility of the FSC system worldwide.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • Support the revision of Forest Stewardship Standards (FSS) through FSCs outcome-oriented approach.
  • Collaborate with process leads working groups and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure adherence to established processes methodologies and timelines.
  • Conduct literature reviews on topics related to FSC intended outcomes.
  • Develop guidance to support the design and implementation of monitoring frameworks.
  • Compile and synthesize evidence data and insights from multiple sources.
  • Communicate findings effectively to FSC stakeholders to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Design implement and maintain collaborative workstreams with FSC Network Partners and FSC International staff.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of monitoring programmes tools and innovative monitoring approaches.
  • Manage curate and analyze data collected through monitoring frameworks to generate actionable insights.
  • Identify review and curate relevant impact-related scientific literature using established classifications and metadata standards.
  • Maintain high-quality datasets and support associated platforms including the FSC Research Portal and Impact Dashboard while undertaking additional projects and assignments as required.

Your profile
  • PhD degree in Forestry Ecology Environmental Studies or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in forest management monitoring and evaluation research academia or a related environmental field.
  • Proven track record of active engagement in academic or scientific research for at least 2 years.
  • Strong experience designing and implementing monitoring activities while balancing diverse stakeholder needs and constraints.
  • Working knowledge of GIS remote sensing and modern forest monitoring technologies.
  • Excellent data analysis skills including experience with statistical methods and relevant analytical software.
  • Demonstrated ability to review synthesize and communicate scientific literature and research findings.
  • Experience translating complex technical and scientific concepts into clear actionable insights for varied audiences and decision-makers.
  • Strong understanding of FSCs normative framework and related processes; experience with certification schemes is an advantage.
  • Proven project management organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving detail-oriented and service-focused approach with a high level of accuracy and diligence.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel) with experience in Power BI data visualization tools and database management considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English; Spanish and/or French are an advantage. Ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-technical audiences and engage constructively on diverse and potentially contentious topics.

The Fine Print
  • Location: Bonn Germany.

  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
