Your tasks and responsibilities

Airbus is investigating methods to combine classical systems engineering with modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automate accelerate and safeguard aircraft physical modeling and simulation workflows.

Within the scope of the master thesis you will evaluate the broad feasibility accuracy and engineering suitability of local open-weights Large Language Models (LLMs) and cloud-based enterprise solutions (such as GCP Gemini) against physics-based Modelica architectures. Integrating your work directly within the python toolset you will develop an AI-driven application interfaced with Dymola environment to execute heal and validate automated model generation interface modifications and regression test synthesis.

  • Literature research and familiarization with AI-augmented systems engineering multi-agent prompt engineering and Modelica structural principles.

  • Evaluation and benchmarking of chosen local LLMs versus enterprise cloud models regarding syntax correctness and physical accuracy.

  • Feasibility analysis of using single-prompt techniques versus multi-agent loop architectures to resolve compiler discrepancies.

  • Implementation of a small modular AI pipeline application integrated as workflow handlers inside the existing automation framework.

  • Verification of the AI toolkit across three core engineering test cases: Model Generation (text-to-code) Model Modification (interface migration) and Automated Regression Test Generation.

  • Assessment of legal and operational boundaries including human-in-the-loop validation principles and alignment with the EU AI Act.

  • Documentation and final thesis compilation.

Desired skills and qualifications
  • Enrolled full-time student (d/f/m) within Computational Engineering Computer Science Mechanical Engineering Aerospace or a similar technical field of study.

  • Strong software engineering skills with high proficiency in Python (experience with C or Java is an asset).

  • Knowledge of or strong applied interest in Large Language Models prompt engineering and multi-agent software patterns.

  • Basic understanding or academic exposure to physical system simulation and modeling environments (such as Dymola/Modelica or Simulink).

  • Familiarity with or interest in containerization tools (Docker) and structural software architecture.
