Flutter & Fullstack Engineer (fmd) Fully Remote
Job Summary
memodio is a digital health application (DiGA) fighting forgetfulness and dementia Our app is prescribed by doctors fully reimbursed by German statutory health insurance and recommended by leading medical a clinical trial with 140 participants we showed that it measurably improves memory performance everyday independence and quality of life. More than 10000 people already trust memodio.
Weve been on the market for over five years. So we have the speed and ownership culture of a startup without the chaotic early days: a validated product paying reimbursement partners and real users who notice when we ship something good. Now were growing the engineering team.
Where you sit: anywhere in the world. Were a small distributed team not a company with a remote policy bolted on. The one requirement is overlap: at least four hours of your working day between 09:00 and 18:00 Berlin time because we solve problems together not by throwing tickets over a wall.
How you join us: as an employee or as a freelancer whichever fits your situation better. Tell us which youd prefer when you apply.
Our core product is live and helping thousands of people but its far from finished. A big part of this role is evolving the existing app to better fit the people who actually use it: adults aged 50 often dealing with early-stage cognitive decline. Every improvement you make has a direct visible effect on someones day.
Beyond the core product were building new and adjacent products including ones with AI capabilities. If working with LLMs excites you theres real room to shape that. If it doesnt thats fine too.
How the role works
You wont get finished designs and implementation specs to execute. Youll get problems context and user needs and the freedom to figure out the best solution. Thats deliberate: its where the creativity and the ownership live. It also means the job asks you to think about what to build not only how.
Today our CTO is hands-on in the codebase supported by a part-time engineer. Youd join as the next full-time engineer on a small team where your decisions carry real weight.
Day to day
- Frontend: evolve our Flutter app (iOS & Android) with a strong focus on good UX and usability for people aged 50
- Backend: design and build our APIs and services for new features
- Product: work closely with our medical and product colleagues: your voice matters in what we build and how
- Quality: help us keep code review testing and engineering standards at the level a regulated medical product demands
- Optional: if DevOps interests you theres room to shape our cloud infrastructure CI/CD and deployment but it isnt the core of the job
What you bring
- 3 years of professional software engineering experience and we care far more about what youve actually shipped than about the number. Show us something you built
- Flutter/Dart skills or a proven ability to ramp up fast (e.g. coming from React Native or native mobile)
- Working knowledge of and building APIs you dont have to be equally strong on both ends but you cant be mobile-only
- You work well remotely and asynchronously. This is a distributed role on a tiny team. You write clearly you post updates without being asked you unblock yourself and you dont go quiet for two days
- At least four hours of daily overlap with 09:0017:00 Berlin time (CET/CEST)
- Youre comfortable working from underspecified problems. As a small company we cant hand you full designs and implementation plans youll need to ask the right questions propose solutions and make return you get creative freedom
- A self-directed structured way of working you thrive with a lot of ownership and little supervision
- Dedication: we dont do inhumane startup hours but when it matters - a release a deadline a critical fix
- Fluent English written and spoken. German is a plus not a requirement
Nice to have not required
- Interest or experience in software security our product passed an intense security audit and we intend to keep that bar high
- Experience with accessibility or with building for older users
- Experience with DiGA medical devices or other regulated environments
- Startup or consultancy background
- DevOps experience (CI/CD cloud infrastructure)
You are probably not right if
- You need a large team around you. For now its you a hands-on CTO and a part-time engineer. Specialists to hand things off to come later youll help hire them
- Youre looking for greenfield-only work. A big part of this job is improving a live product with real users and real constraints
- You need someone to hand you tickets or a manager checking in daily. Remote and self-directed is the whole shape of this role
- You see your scope as highly specialised. We need technical solutions for internal tooling here and there too. If touching a HubSpot integration feels beneath you this isnt the right place
What we offer
- Purpose: your code measurably helps people clinically proven prescribed by doctors reimbursed by statutory health insurance
- Real ownership: as the next full-time engineer youll own features end to end and have a direct say in how we build
- Stability with startup energy: 5 years on the market revenue from reimbursement partners
- Genuinely remote genuinely worldwide: work from wherever youre based with flexible hours around a light overlap window. Our office in Potsdam is there if you ever want it
- Your choice of setup: employment or freelance whichever suits you
- No office politics: a small focused team where the energy goes into the product not into positioning
- Straight talk: youve just read our salary range and a list of reasons not to apply. Thats how we operate internally too
If you have any questions please dont hestitate to reach out :)
The initial phase will be a short questionnaire followed by a small project and 1-2 live interview rounds.
