In Braunschweig suchen wir Sie für das Institut QUEST Experimentelle Quantenmetrologie als:
Doktorandin / Doktorand (m/w/d)

Entgeltgruppe 13 TVöD Bund befristet für 3 Jahre Teilzeit 3315 Wochenstunden
Ihre Aufgaben:
- Aufbau und Entwicklung einer optischen Uhr basierend auf hochgeladenen Osmium-Ionen
- Einsatz von Quanten-Engineering-Techniken wie Verschränkung oder dynamisches Entkoppeln zur Unterdrückung systematischer Effekte
- Evaluation der systematischen Unsicherheiten der Uhr
- Frequenzvergleiche mit anderen optischen Uhren
- Interpretation der Uhrenvergleiche für Tests fundamentaler Physik
- Mitwirkung bei Projekten wie z. B. ERC-Projekt FunClocks und dem Exzellenzcluster QuantumFrontiers
- Präsentation der wissenschaftlichen Ergebnisse auf nationalen und internationalen Konferenzen
Ihr Profil:
- Hochschulstudium (Diplom/Master) der Fachrichtung Physik mit gutem bis sehr gutem Abschluss
- Interesse an der Entwicklung und Durchführung von Hochpräzisionsexperimenten
- Nachgewiesene Kenntnisse in Atomphysik Quantenoptik Laserkühlung Spektroskopie oder vergleichbaren Gebieten
- Basiskenntnisse in einer Programmiersprache (z. B. Python) und grundlegende Elektronikkenntnisse sind von Vorteil
- Hohes Engagement sowie eigenverantwortliches Arbeiten
- Ausgeprägte Team- und Kommunikationsfähigkeit
- Englischkenntnisse (C1-Niveau) Deutschkenntnisse sind von Vorteil
- Bereitschaft zu Dienstreisen im In- und Ausland
- Die physische Möglichkeit zur Laborarbeit muss gegeben sein (die Tätigkeit stellt besondere Anforderungen an Mobilität Sehvermögen sowie das Heben und Tragen von Lasten. Sie umfasst unter anderem das Justieren von Laser- und Optiksystemen. Wir prüfen jedoch im Einzelfall gerne Möglichkeiten der Anpassung.

At our Braunschweig site we are looking to fill the following position at QUEST Institute:
Doctoral candidate
Physics
Remuneration Group 13 TVöD Bund Three-year fixed term Part-time (33.15 hours/week)
Your tasks:
- Setup and development of an optical clock based on highly charged osmium ions
- Application of quantum engineering techniques such as entanglement or dynamic decoupling to suppress systematic effects
- Evaluation of the systematic uncertainties of the clock
- Frequency comparisons with other optical clocks
- Interpretation of clock comparisons for tests of fundamental physics
- Participation in projects such as the ERC project FunClocks and the QuantumFrontiers Excellence Cluster
- Presentation of scientific results at national and international conferences
Your profile:
- You have completed your university studies (masters degree or German Diplom) in physics or a comparable field with a very good degree
- You are interested in developing and performing high-precision experiments
- You have proven knowledge of atomic physics quantum optics laser cooling laser spectroscopy or related fields
- Basic knowledge of a programming language (for example python) and electronics would be an advantage
- You are highly committed and capable of working autonomously
- You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills
- You have a very good command of spoken and written English (C1 level) proficiency in German would be an advantage
- You are willing to travel within Germany and abroad within the scope of your assignment
- You must have the physical ability to work in a laboratory. The position places special demands on mobility vision as well as lifting and carrying loads. It includes among other things the alignment and adjustment of laser and optics systems. However we are happy to examine possibilities for adjustments on an individual case basis.
