The Construction Manager working from the project office during the engineering phase(s) is responsible for the overall planning direction organization and budgeting of all construction or maintenance work within their Area of responsibility to the highest safety and quality levels within time and costs constraints. During the engineering phase the Construction Manager is primary responsible for the development of the construction strategies and execution schedule. They must oversee the organizational plans detailed schedule development and implementation strategies.

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Responsible for safe and environmentally acceptable construction execution methods with support of the Project Manager and Site Health and Safety Manager.
  • Coordinate with the client project management and project services in identifying required reporting procedures and formats for client and Hatch management needs.
  • Contributes to and reviews ongoing capital estimates schedule and design as they pertain to construction.
  • Review construction/erection drawings and specifications prepared for the project for economic constructability develop strategies for erection interfaces determine appropriate construction methods and preempt problem areas.
  • Develop site organization and staffing requirements required to execute construction activities within project schedule and acceptable costs.
  • Direct monitor and motivate subordinate construction specialists in performance and direct activities as necessary to ensure project requirements are achieved.
  • Establish the construction requirements for pre-fabrication and modularization
  • Provide construction technical support to other site functions as needed.
  • Liaise with project representatives as required to ensure shutdowns relocations tie ins etc. are planned safely and in a timely manner with minimum disruption.
  • Participate in the labor studies manpower sourcing exercise and the establishment of the industrial relations strategy.
  • Coordinate the preparation and issue of the Construction Execution Plan

You will bring to this role:

  • Minimum 10 years construction management experience on major projects or in heavy or industrial construction
  • Demonstrated health and safety management focus in the construction phase of project delivery and extensive knowledge of health and safety management procedures safe work practices and applicable legislation.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Strong leadership skills the ability to motivate and lead a discipline focused teams and fit into a team environment
  • Effective report writing skills planning organizational and oral skills
  • Excellent communication negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Able to communicate directly with the client on key issues.
  • knowledge of the EPCM model of project delivery including the activities interfaces and interdependencies of all project disciplines (engineering procurement construction management and other project related disciplines)
  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability to practically interpret and apply good construction practice and appropriate industry standards.
  • Knowledge of furnace operations and advantage
