Were looking for a Mid-Level Backend Engineer to join our Invoice & Tax team. This is where hospitalitymeets regulation: every property Apaleo powers needs to invoice correctly and handle tax right in everycountry it operates in. If you like the idea of solving real compliance problems with clean well-tested codeand owning your work end to end read on.

WhatYoullBe Up To

• Own backend projects end to end: from validating requirements with the product manager througharchitecture and technical breakdown to implementation and release.
• Build and extend backend services 10 running in Docker containers.
• Develop features from database design through business logic to RESTful APIs with a direct line to how tax and invoicing rules across multiple countries shape the implementation.
• Write clean well-tested code including unit and end-to-end tests. We dont have a dedicated QAfunction so youll take full ownership of making sure what you ship holds up in production.
• Monitor your own services in production and identify and resolve issues early.
• Work against dual deadlines on invoicing and tax driven by regulatory requirements as well as customercommitments and escalate early when somethings at risk.
• Collaborate closely with your product manager frontend engineers and other backend engineers in anagile team where your ideas and feedback are valued.

WhatYoullBring to the Team

• A degree in Computer Science a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid independent experience delivering backend features end to end in a cloud environment.
• / C# backend development experience.
• A genuine tolerance for tax legal and compliance subject matter. You dont need deep expertise from dayone but multi-country tax and invoicing legislation is core to this role not a side detail so it needs tohold your interest.
• A meticulous detail-driven working style. Compliance work leaves little room for loose ends.
• A proactive approach to communication: comfortable clarifying requirements flagging risk and escalating early rather than waiting to be asked.
• Hands-on experience with at least some of the following:
• Relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Docker and containerised workflows.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS (Azure experience is also welcome) and message-based or asynchronous systems such as Kafka or Azure Service Bus.
• Familiarity with microservices concepts and API-driven architecture.
• Comfort breaking down tasks estimating work and delivering features incrementally.
• Experience with or interest in AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code GitHub Copilot or similiar.
• Fluent English.

Nice to have

• First experience withKafkaor other streaming / messaging systems.
• Exposure toKubernetes / ECSor cloud-native DevOps practices.
• Basic experience with performance tuning or database optimizations.
• Experience working in SaaS or API-first products.

• This role sits in a compliance-heavy space. Much of the implementation work is shaped by how differentcountries legislate tax and invoicing so this is genuinely interesting problem-solving territory if that kindof depth appeals to you.
• Invoice & Tax is also central to how Apaleo grows: as we expand into new markets this team drives thediscovery and requirements work that makes sure our platform is ready to operate there. Youll have adirect hand in shaping how Apaleo enters new countries.
• The team is growing and evolving including a move from Scrum to a Kanban way of working.
