Autobrains is seeking a professional and experienced Autonomous Vehicle Test Operator to join our Systems Engineering team in this pivotal role you will lead daily on-road testing operations and collaborate closely with our R&D teams to advance our self-driving technology. The salary range for this position is per year (gross) depending on experience and qualifications.



Responsibilities:
  • Safety Leadership: Serve as the primary safeguard during road tests actively mitigating risks to ensure the safety of in-vehicle participants the vehicle and surrounding road users.
  • Vehicle & System Operation: Safely operate autonomous test vehicles in designated operational areas for engineering tests validation runs and client/exec demonstrations.
  • Technical System Management: Manage the end-to-end operation of onboard autonomous systems including computing hardware sensors software execution and data logging toolchains.
  • Engineering Feedback & Reporting: Generate concise daily test logs and detailed feedback for R&D engineering teams clearly documenting system observations edge cases and issues to accelerate development.
  • System Mastery & Input: Develop a deep architectural understanding of the self-driving system to contribute meaningful insights architectural feedback and actionable feature improvements.
  • Fleet Inspection & Readiness: Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to verify mechanical safety hardware integrity and system readiness prior to mission deployment.



Requirements:

Core Qualifications

  • Language Skills: Excellent written and spoken English (primary working language). German proficiency at B1 level or higher.
  • Driving Credentials: Valid German drivers license with a clean driving record and a minimum of 4 years of active driving experience.
  • Driving Passion: Strong enthusiasm for driving with the comfort and stamina to operate a vehicle for full working days.
  • Technical Aptitude: Strong computer literacy with basic troubleshooting skills (e.g. resolving connectivity network and power issues).
  • Communication & Leadership: Clear professional written communication (email/chat) with a self-motivated proactive and independent working style.
  • Work Authorization: Valid work permit for Germany.


Location & Flexibility

  • Base Location: Based in or near Munich (daily operations originate from the Munich office).
  • Schedule Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible shifts (day night and occasional weekends as needed).
  • Travel: Willingness to travel across Europe (up to 25% travel).


Nice to Have (Bonus Skills)

  • AV / ADAS Testing Experience: Prior experience in vehicle software testing particularly with self-driving systems sensor data collection or autonomous fleet testing.
  • Advanced Driving Certification: Completion of high-performance or advanced driving modules (e.g. BMW B1 Mercedes T1 Porsche or equivalent).
  • Autonomous & Robotics Software: Hands-on experience with Linux environments ROS or Foxglove.
  • Electrical & Systems: Practical experience with low-voltage wiring harness integration or system installations.
  • Automotive Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with general vehicle mechanics and EV systems.
