Associate Legal Counsel, AWS Legal

Amazons Legal Department is looking for a talented technology lawyer to support Amazon Web Services (AWS) in selling to commercial sector customers throughout the Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region with a primary focus on supporting AWS sales in Germany. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing industry providing AI and IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity storage content delivery database services and more to private and public sector customers.

Key job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting negotiating and advising on strategic technology service agreements with enterprise customers and partners as well as providing legal support for local and regional services and initiatives. The role will also involve ongoing legal counsel and regulatory interpretation and guidance for senior executives and other business and legal team members on a variety of product development operational security compliance data protection and public policy matters. The role includes participating in other legal team projects including managing legal issues that arise in existing relationships and handling customer and business partner inquiries.

We are looking for a candidate who is proactive entrepreneurial enjoys being challenged has strong technology and communication skills and demonstrates sound pragmatic judgment in ambiguous situations.

This position is based in Munich Germany. Some regional and international travel will be required.

A day in the life
You will work with various teams within the AWS organization. Our lawyers value working alongside and in person with their business colleagues and local legal teams to solve a constant flow of novel challenges in a growing and exciting business. The role involves providing legal support to AWSs Sales and Marketing team (SMGS) in service of tech- and regulatory-savvy customers in Germany covering a range of cloud and technology transactions with customers who are often highly knowledgeable about the technology they procure. Work includes transactional and regulatory projects across EMEA with colleagues across multiple jurisdictions.

Day-to-day activities may include negotiating enterprise agreements with local customers advising on regulatory matters coordinating with EMEA teammates on multi-country deal structures and serving as lead counsel on strategic sales transactions and partnership agreements. You will pioneer AI-driven transformation of legal operationsimproving contract review cycles eliminating manual bottlenecks and deploying advanced research tools that deliver insights in minutes instead of hours. Your innovations will multiply our legal functions impact enabling faster decisions consistency and proactive risk mitigation.

About the team
The Germany-based Legal team is part of the broader EMEA SMGS Legal organisation and consists of lawyers supporting AWSs regional customer base across commercial and public sector engagements. The team also handles EMEA-wide workstreams including matters of data protection financial services and telecommunications. Work spans transactional regulatory and advisory support across multiple jurisdictions requiring close collaboration with business stakeholders and legal colleagues throughout the region.

- License to practice law in Europe US or other common law jurisdiction
- Experience managing multiple projects and meeting aggressive deadlines
- Post-qualification legal experience (minimum of 2 years post bar admission).

- Experience of a mix of corporate law firm and in-house work
- Experience in web services/cloud computing software licensing telecommunications or equivalent
