We are seeking an experienced and analytical Cost Accountant to support the financial and operational performance of a metallurgical smelting facility. The role is responsible for managing production costing monitoring raw material consumption validating manufacturing costs conducting variance analysis and providing actionable financial insights to improve operational efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in metallurgical smelting operations and a strong understanding of production processes material balances and ERP-based costing systems.
Key Responsibilities
Production Costing & Cost Control
Prepare and maintain accurate production cost reports for all smelting operations.
Calculate and validate manufacturing costs including raw materials reductants electrodes power consumption consumables and overheads.
Develop and maintain standard costing models for production processes.
Monitor production costs and recommend initiatives to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
Bill of Materials (BOM) & Material Consumption
Maintain and validate Bills of Materials (BOM) for all products and production processes.
Monitor raw material consumption and compare actual usage against standard consumption rates.
Analyze burden/blend preparation and ensure accurate material allocation.
Identify material usage variances and recommend corrective actions.
Production Reporting & Material Reconciliation
Reconcile production output raw material consumption inventory movements and production losses.
Verify production data using SCADA-based production reporting systems.
Prepare daily weekly and monthly production cost and reconciliation reports.
Ensure accurate material balance calculations and production yield reporting.
Inventory & ERP Cost Management
Monitor inventory transactions related to raw materials work-in-progress and finished goods.
Ensure accurate recording of production and inventory data within ERP systems.
Generate production costing reports inventory valuation reports and variance analyses.
Support month-end inventory reconciliation and financial closing activities.
Financial Analysis & Variance Reporting
Perform detailed cost variance analysis for raw materials power consumption production yields and operational efficiency.
Support budgeting forecasting and financial planning for plant operations.
Operational Support & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with production metallurgy maintenance procurement and finance teams to improve costing accuracy.
Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decision-making.
Recommend initiatives to improve material efficiency production yields and overall plant performance.
Participate in continuous improvement projects focused on reducing production costs and enhancing operational efficiency.
Compliance & Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with company financial policies costing procedures and internal controls.
Maintain complete documentation supporting production costing and inventory records.
Support internal and external audits by providing costing schedules and supporting documentation.
Ensure consistency and accuracy in production reporting and financial data.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelors Degree in Accounting Finance Cost Accounting Commerce Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional qualification such as CMA ACCA CPA CA or equivalent is an advantage.
510 years of experience in a metallurgical smelter such as Ferrosilicon Ferroalloys Silicon Metal Manganese or similar smelting operations.
Strong understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) raw material consumption burden/blend preparation material balances and production yield calculations.
Proven experience preparing and validating production costing including raw materials reductants electrodes power consumption consumables and manufacturing overheads.
Hands-on experience with SCADA-based production reporting and reconciliation of production consumption and inventory data.
Strong proficiency with ERP-based production inventory and costing modules.
Solid understanding of smelter operations furnace processes and manufacturing cost structures.
