We are seeking a Radiation Protection Engineer to join our Safety & Licensing Department and contribute to the development of a comprehensive radiation protection framework for next-generation nuclear systems.
Location & Working Arrangement
EURELITE is currently building its global engineering presence. The companys Paris office is expected to open in 2027. Until then international candidates joining for on-site positions will initially work as part of our Beijing-based China engineering team during the first year.
Position Overview
As a Radiation Protection Engineer you will be responsible for the strategic design implementation and management of the radiation protection program for EURELITEs advanced reactor facilities.
You will perform advanced shielding calculations radiation source term analysis radiological zoning design radiation monitoring system development and ALARA optimization to ensure compliance with international nuclear safety standards.
This role provides a unique opportunity to establish radiation protection strategies from the early design stage of a Generation IV Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) through commissioning and operation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Radiation Protection System Design & Optimization
- Develop the plant-wide radiation protection architecture including:
- Primary and secondary shielding design
- Radiation zone classification and zoning boundaries
- Personnel dose management strategies
- Perform high-fidelity radiation analyses including:
- Radiation source term evaluation
- Material activation analysis
- Shielding thickness optimization
- Local dose rate calculations
- Support optimization of reactor layouts to minimize occupational radiation exposure.
2. Radiation Monitoring System Development
- Design and deploy plant-wide online radiation monitoring systems.
- Configure monitoring solutions for:
- Ambient radiation fields
- Process water monitoring
- Key plant components
- Support selection and qualification of radiation monitoring equipment.
- Oversee:
- Calibration activities
- Maintenance programs
- Quality assurance of fixed and portable dosimetry systems
3. ALARA Strategy & Radiation Safety Management
- Develop and implement comprehensive ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) programs.
- Prepare radiation protection documentation including:
- Radiation Work Permits (RWPs)
- Radiation protection procedures
- Radiological emergency response plans
- Develop and deliver radiation safety training programs.
- Conduct internal radiation protection audits and compliance assessments.
4. Regulatory & Licensing Support
- Support nuclear licensing activities related to radiation protection and Health Physics (HP).
- Interface with:
- Nuclear regulatory authorities
- Technical support organizations
- Radiation safety specialists
- Provide technical documentation and support regulatory reviews.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
- Masters degree or above in:
- Radiation Protection
- Nuclear Technology
- Nuclear Physics
- Medical Physics
- Related technical disciplines
Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of:
- Radiation protection principles
- Radiation monitoring methodologies
- Material activation analysis
- Radiation dosimetry
- Shielding calculations
- Experience with radiation transport simulation tools including:
- MCNP
- FLUKA
- GEANT4
- Equivalent Monte Carlo simulation codes
- Understanding of:
- Nuclear facility radiation protection requirements
- International nuclear safety standards
- Radiation protection regulations
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with the following experience will be highly valued:
- Hands-on radiation protection experience in:
- Commercial nuclear power plants
- Advanced research reactors
- High-energy medical radiation facilities
- Experience with:
- ALARA engineering optimization projects
- Health Physics (HP) systems
- Radiation protection program implementation
- Familiarity with international nuclear safety frameworks including:
- IAEA safety guides
- HAF regulations
- National nuclear safety standards
