Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Sciences (ADG/SCS) the direct supervision of the Chief of the Executive Office (EO/SCS) and in close coordination with the Executive Officer and the Head of Knowledge Management Unit the contract holder will support the implementation of the SCS Communication strategy by supporting Sector-wide actions notably for the following Programmes:
a) Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Technology
b) Management of Social Transformations and Foresight
c) Inclusion Rights and Intercultural Dialogue
d) Youth Coordination
The contract holder shall be responsible for the following tasks supporting the implementation of SCS digital communication priorities :
- Coordinate the Sectors events and priorities in close collaboration with the above-mentioned sections primarily in English French in accordance with UNESCOs communication guidelines.
- Support the Sectors planning development and implementation of communication for events initiatives and International Days under the responsibility of the above-mentioned sections.
- Provide communication support to the Executive Officer in relation to cross-cutting initiatives involving coordination with the above-mentioned sections.
- Coordinate updates to the sections contributions to the UNESCO Calendar of Events and other planning tools ensuring timely communication planning and follow-up for major and high-level events. Maintain updated the calendar of events for the SCS Sector to be made available to all and feed CPE Trello Board.
- Contribute to the development of digital communication to enhance visibility and stakeholder engagement including for the Social Transformations Week (29 sept 2 oct) and the MOST Forum (29 September) and incorporate feedback from colleagues programme specialists and supervisors.
- Draft and prepare online communication materials including flyers web stories visual assets and other outreach products.
- Coordinate the editing translation and online publication of content including articles web pages event pages primarily in English and French.
- Ensure the regular maintenance and updating of web content in close coordination with sections/programme teams and UNESCO communication services.
- Coordinate the consolidation quality control and timely submission of briefing materials for the Director-General the Assistant Director-General and other senior officials liaising with the concerned sections and relevant UNESCO entities to ensure coherence accuracy and alignment with institutional priorities.
- Support the planning coordination and delivery of events and engagements including liaison with organizing teams preparation of communication and briefing materials and documentation through photography and video coverage when required.
- Carry out any other tasks as required by the Executive Officer to support the effective implementation of programme activities and communication priorities.
- Design a pamphlet (graphic design of the pamphlet cover and its interiors) on the collaboration between La Caixa Foundation and UNESCO MOST.
The Contract Holder undertakes to perform these duties with care professionalism and diligence and to comply with the instructions of his/her supervisor in connection with the responsibilities described above.
EDUCATION
Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent) in Communications Journalism Public Relations Cultural or Social Sciences or other relevant fields of study.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 years of relevant professional work experience in communications print media digital and social media public relations or other relevant fields of work.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting formulation and reporting skills;
- Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing;
- Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
- Solid overall computer literacy including proficiency in various applications.
- Self-motivated ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.
