Remote Android Engineer (Java or Kotlin)

Only candidates with 6+ years of overall software development experience are eligible for this role.

Turing is looking for a remote Android Engineer on behalf of a high-growth social news platform with millions of daily active users and home to thousands of communities. As a member of the Android team, the developer will contribute to building and enhancing the architectural foundations that support a delightful experience. The platform provides a medium for people to connect, finding common ground through their interests and sharing the things they care about most. The engineer will drive the technical strategy, architecture, and execution for one of the largest apps in the world while working in a high-impact role. This job presents a great chance for candidates who would like to deliver a high-quality, performant experience for users around the globe. It requires a minimum of 2-4 hours overlap with PT.

Job Responsibilities:

- Drive technical strategy, architecture, and execution for the company’s platform
- Create systems and components that provide people around the world with quick, great experiences
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement technical and business goals and create user-friendly experiences
- Participate in all phases of the development process, including technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch
- Review code and design documentation, provide comments on product specifications and mockups
- Lead a group of thoughtful, quick-thinking, and enthusiastic engineers
- Establish and set standards to optimize developer processes, promote best practices, and assist engineers on the team in their professional development by coaching and mentoring them
- Proactively learn and continuously improve technical and non-technical abilities


Job Requirements:

- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
- At least 6+ years of experience within Android development
- Strong expertise with Java or Kotlin
- Strong software development fundamentals
- Experience building data-intensive, highly responsive, and fault-tolerant apps in the constrained environment of a smartphone
- Willingness to travel an unorthodox road and learn new software development techniques
- Experience developing scalable, well-designed software
- Experience building at least one Android app from incubation to shipment
- Nice to have some expertise in building high-performance feeds-based or media-rich Android apps
- Desirable to have some bilingual communication skills along with English
