Job Summary
Are you passionate about working on applied European projects where you can advance your fields of research in software engineering This postdoc positionfocuses on developing standardized architectures interoperability frameworks benchmark datasets and evaluation methodologies for intelligent urban digital twins. Such efforts would facilitate comparisons among different approaches improve reproducibility and accelerate the transition toward scalable widely deployable intelligent urban digital twins. The position also addresses the need to bridge the gap between research prototypes and operational deployments. Existing studies often remain at the proof-of-concept or laboratory validation stage with only limited evaluation in real-world environments. The postdoc will therefore contribute to large-scale deployments longitudinal evaluations and empirical validation in realistic urban settings with the aim of better understanding the effectiveness scalability and societal impact of intelligent urban digital twins.
Research experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Software architecture reference architectures and architectural design patterns
Software quality attributes including interoperability scalability modularity extensibility maintainability and reliability
Software evaluation empirical assessment benchmarking and validation methods
Microservice-based cloud-native edge and distributed software systems
Interoperability frameworks data integration and cross-system communication
Digital twin platforms urban data platforms or other complex socio-technical software systems

Your overall mission is to contribute to pioneering a transformative EU ecosystem to foster digital innovation and facilitate interoperable seamless digital transformation across sectors. As such you will contribute to building a vital pillar for Europes future scientific creativity and innovation.
You will be involved in various national and EU projects spanning cross-sectoral domains like energy mobility and more. You will unfold your good skills and knowledge as part of the Dynamical Systems Section. We perform research within a broad range of areas within dynamical systems including optimization forecasting control and digital twins while advancing software engineering methods for the development of scalable interoperable and sustainable software solutions.
To succeed you must actively contribute to nurture an environment of mutual trust dedicated collaboration andsharing of insights and advancements within the research community.
Responsibilities and qualifications
- Conducting research in software engineering with a focus on intelligent urban digital twins interoperability distributed systems and scalable software architectures.
- Developing and evaluating standardized software architectures design patterns reference models and interoperability frameworks.
- Designing benchmark datasets evaluation methodologies and software quality assessment approaches to support reproducible and comparable research.
- Contributing to the development deployment and empirical validation of software prototypes in realistic urban and cross-sector settings.
- Supporting large-scale demonstrations longitudinal evaluations and applied case studies in collaboration with European project partners municipalities industry actors and public-sector stakeholders.
- Publishing research results in high-impact journals and conferences within software engineering digital twins and smart cities.
- Contributing to project deliverables technical reports workshops and dissemination activities.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and contributing to knowledge sharing across academic industrial and public-sector partners.

- A PhD or equivalent
- Research experience in Software Engineering Distributed Software Systems Edge and Cloud Computing
- A strong publication record in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
- Experience participating in collaborative national or European research projects is an advantage.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to conduct independent research and deliver high-quality results within agreed timelines.
As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

About theDynamical Systems Section at DTU Compute
The mission of the section is to conduct research on all levels around dynamical systems. This involves both deterministic and stochastic systems discrete and continuous systems deductive and inductive model building forecasting and descriptions as well as control and optimization.
The research at the Dynamical Systems Section is very wide ranging. From foundational research in work on statistical forecasting modeling of spatial and temporal processes and time series analysis to applied research in wind- and solar power forecasting electricity price forecasting and in the modelling and forecasting of district heating system. We are part ofDTU Compute.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation ofProfessional addition supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTUs salary structure for scientific staff: period of employment is 2 years. Starting date is as soon as possible (or according to mutual agreement). The position is a full-time position.
