Are you eager to contribute to an ambitious high-impact project advancing sustainability through remanufacturing in a circular economy context

DTU is recruiting for a position in Design for Disassembly and Remanufacturing processes in the newly established National Centre for Remanufacturing - reManuFactory.

As part of the reManuFactory project funded by the Danish Industry Foundation you will collaborate closely with Research Assistants Postdocs and academic staff to develop cutting-edge methodologies and technology solutions. You will contribute to the development of scalable methods and tools to assess the remanufacturing potential of existing products to enable efficient and selective remanufacturing processes and to improve design for remanufacturing. The research is inherently cross-disciplinary integrating simulation-driven design numerical optimization and systems engineering approaches to analyze complex engineering design spaces and support informed decision-making across technical economic and environmental objectives.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate will join the Section of Engineering Design and Manufacturing Systems at DTU Construct working within a multidisciplinary international and diverse team.

We are looking for a sharp highly motivated and collaborative colleague for this position able to partake the following primary tasks:

  • Develop methods and tools for investigating remanufacturing potential within a multi-objective space including cost technical feasibility variance robustness and sustainability aspects.
  • Develop methods and tools for simulation-based design and numerical optimization to systematically explore engineering design spaces in the context of remanufacturing
  • Establishproceduresfor the systematic planning of remanufacturing incl. selective disassembly planning and optimization assessment of remanufacturing concepts based on virtual builds and physical test-setups.
  • Identify and leverage synergies between design for remanufacturing and adjacent areas such as modularisation standardisation and design of product families.
  • Design and facilitate structured and interactive workshops with industrial stakeholders to co-develop engineering methods/tools explore design alternatives structure decision-making and co-create solutions for ensuring applicability and impact in real-world contexts.
  • Supervise engineering student projects (e.g. BSc/MSc theses)
  • Collaborate across work packages and contribute to academic dissemination through publications.

Your primary qualifications are:

  • As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Design Engineering or Sustainable Product Development or a related field.
  • Strong engineering background incl. multi-objective and numerical optimization simulation-based design and design space exploration for complex products under uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated experience in disassembly planning and remanufacturing process implementation incl. component recovery strategies Design for Disassembly approaches and process automation
  • Experience in designing and implementing laboratory setups ideally in the context of remanufacturing
  • Expertise in collaborating with industrial partners incl. a demonstrated ability to design/facilitate workshops co-development of methods or tools translation of advanced engineering methods into practical and applicable solutions.
  • Proven ability to work across disciplines and collaborate with industrial and academic partners.
  • Experience in disseminating research through scientific publications and conferences.
  • Strong motivation independence and a proactive solution-oriented mindset.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant addition supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTUs salary structure for scientific staff:
