DTU Wind and Energy Systems is home to a strong international academic environment within research innovation education and scientific advice. We support the green transition and the development of the advanced electrical energy systems of the future with wind energy as the most important source of departments activities within research teaching innovation and research-based consultancy are world-leading and range thematically from the material science and wind turbine designs to development of wind farms and integrated energy systems supported by economic and societal analyses.

DTU Wind and Energy Systems is organized into four divisions and we are now looking for a leader of the Wind Energy Systems division. This divisionhas strong competencies within meteorology and remote sensing wind energy resources systems engineering renewable energy plants scientific software development as well as social and economic aspects including impact assessments. The division is engaged in fundamental research as well as in application-oriented research performed in close collaboration with industry and many other societal division is at the forefront of developing a wide range of software tools and methods to support the wind energy sector and the green transition and provides scientific advice in large parts of the the field of education the division is leading with new initiatives in continuing education and digital teaching methods.

As Head of the Wind Energy Systems Division the five heads of sections will report to you. You will take an important management position which involves the responsibility of some 140 highly qualified employees including PhD students researchers professors development engineers and administrative staff. You will have overall responsibility for the divisions research education innovation and commercial activities as well as the operation of the Risø Hybrid Power Plant. As Head of Division you will also be part of the departments management group which in addition to the Head of Department consists of three other Heads of Division and the Head of Administration. They work closely together on day-to-day operations as well as on the strategic development of the department.

As Head of Division some of your most important responsibilities will be:

  1. Professional development coordination and quality assurance of research and innovation activities including securing funding.
  2. Support and contributions to commissioned research public and private sector consultancy scientific advice and software development.
  3. Support and contribution to educational activities and activities towards new students.
  4. Daily inspiring management of the division including resource management budgetary control and progress monitoring of activities.
  5. Contributions to the strategic development of the department and to encourage and facilitate internal and external multidisciplinary collaboration.
  6. Keeping up and widening contacts and collaboration with national and international partners from the wind industry the broader energy sector and universities.
  7. Ensuring communication and dissemination of activities and results to professional and non-professional interest groups.

If you wish to apply for the position we expect you to be an excellent manager and leader with a background as an internationally recognized researcher and/or sector expert within one or more of the focus must have proven management experience from a medium-large sized organization and show that you can create cohesion in the division and across the department. You see new opportunities inspire and set direction in a balanced way.

In addition you can probably recognize yourself in many of these characteristics:

  • Good knowledge of the renewable energy sector and its dependency on research and university collaboration.
  • Good knowledge of some of DTU Wind and Energy Systems research areas and applications coupled with a good understanding of university-level education and teaching.
  • Experience with management in a scientific environment with an academic set of values and with a well-developed ethical compass where the human and social dimensions are important.
  • Management experience from a professional environment comparable to an academic institution where commitment and independence are paramount.
  • Result-oriented and transparent leadership style with a focus on collaboration and delegation and with a good balance between frameworks and freedom to fill them.
  • A large and active professional network with academic institutions and business companies in Denmark and internationally
  • Proven track record in obtaining external funding.
  • Strong communicative skills and ability to create followship internally and externally.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as an Academic Officer Senior Officer Senior Executive addition supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTUs salary structure for managers (TAP): position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1 November 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).

The workplace is DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde.
