Description

Infectious diseases caused by bacterial viral and parasitic pathogens including those that are antimicrobial resistant constitute one of the biggest threats to human and planetary health. The Genomic Epidemiology group at the National Food Institute at DTU is together with partners at University of Copenhagen Statens Serum Institut and globally developing GPAP - a novel online free for use platform for analysis and sharing of genomic data for all pathogens infecting animals humans and plants. To do this we shall offer a broad range of online bioinformatic pipelines for analysing bacterial parasitic fungal and viral genomes and metagenomes.

We are seeking two candidates for vacant positions in bioinformatics to support maintain and develop existing bioinformatic tools and pipelines and provide ad hoc assistance with genomic analyses to the different researchers in the group. The positions will contribute to the continued operation implementation and documentation of established analytical workflows.

Projects will involvefocusing on covering classical bioinformatics methods including sequence alignment and phylogenetic analyses as well as the application and maintenance of existing machine-learning approaches and biological language models.

The candidates will be affiliated with the Genomic Epidemiology Research Group which combines expertise in conventional and molecular microbiology with epidemiology and bioinformatics.

Your main responsibility will be to develop maintain and support existing bioinformatic tools workflows and services as well as assist with routine and ad hoc bioinformatic analyses. The role includes supporting ongoing research activities contributing to data processing workflows and ensuring stable and reproducible analytical operations.

Our expectations of you

  • Practical experience with coding in Python as well as scripting and maintenance of existing codebases
  • Experience working in Unix-based systems
  • Extensive knowledge of microbial genomics and genomic analysis workflows
  • Experience with established machine learning and deep learning approaches in bioinformatic workflows
  • Extensive knowledge of existing bioinformatic algorithms and tools
  • Experience in microbial genomic and metagenomic analyses.
  • As a formal qualification you must have a masters degree in engineering or equivalent within relevant field.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The positions are permanent full-time positions. Starting date is 1 August 2026 (or according to mutual agreement).
