How will you make an impact

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Scientist to provide technical leadership for the production of cutting-edge analytical instrumentation in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment. You will support existing products while leading New Product Introduction (NPI) from pilot builds through production partnering with R&D Design Engineering suppliers and Manufacturing to ensure successful technology transfer and robust manufacturable designs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical leader for Manufacturing Engineering resolving systemic production issues for mass spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Lead New Product Introduction (NPI) including system test development and technology transfer into manufacturing.
  • Develop manufacturing processes and drive process improvements with suppliers.
  • Conduct failure analysis and lead root-cause investigations supporting CAPA and customer issues.
  • Develop and implement advanced analytics and AI solutions to improve testing and troubleshooting.
  • Review and approve Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Create and maintain work instructions process documentation and Device History Records (DHRs) and train technicians and manufacturing engineers.
  • Review and disposition nonconforming materials.
  • Design and implement production test equipment and fixtures.
  • Provide technical support to suppliers.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction manufacturing capacity and supply chain optimization.

Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree in Analytical Chemistry Physics Engineering or a related field required. Masters degree PhD or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3 years of experience in instrumentation design development or engineering.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills supporting complex analytical instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of chromatography and mass spectrometry principles; hands-on experience with LC/MS systems or components is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment (e.g. digital multimeters oscilloscopes) and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with engineering documentation change control and risk assessments.
  • Experience with LC/MS hardware and software is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Python Lua C# C or similar programming languages.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing environments (e.g. ISO 9001); SAP experience is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word and Project.

  • Excellent communication organizational presentation and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and the New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Self-motivated with sound decision-making and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma or similar quality methodologies.
