Job Summary
*Resume/CV must be submitted in English*About the PositionWe are currently seeking aSubstation Engineerto support the execution and development of electric utility infrastructure projects across the United States while being based in ourBogotá Colombia office. This role will focus on the design and implementation of substation protection and control systems supporting projects ranging from distribution through transmission voltage ideal candidate will have experience developing substation protection and control designs performing electrical engineering calculations and preparing construction deliverables for U.S.-based utility projects. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of relay protection schemes substation design standards and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering electric substation design drawings including single-line diagrams AC/DC schematics wiring diagrams relay panel layouts and control building layoutsPrepare and review protection and control design packages for utility substation projectsPerform engineering calculations and analyses including battery sizing AC station service sizing voltage drop calculations and conduit fill calculationsApply and implement relay protection schemes for transmission and distribution substationsDevelop technical equipment specifications construction specifications and engineering work scopesSupport SCADA integration efforts through coordination with engineering and client teamsReview substation designs and engineering deliverables for technical accuracy quality and compliance with project requirementsCoordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including physical design civil structural telecommunications and project management personnelEnsure designs comply with applicable U.S. utility standards client requirements and industry codesSupport construction activities field investigations and engineering issue resolution during project executionCollaborate with U.S.-based engineering teams to deliver projects on schedule and within quality expectationsContribute to continuous improvement initiatives standards development and engineering best practicesEducation and Experience5 years of experience in substation engineering with a primary focus on protection and control projectsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering disciplineExperience developing protection and control drawings and construction deliverables for utility substationsFamiliarity with relay protection schemes relay logic development and protection philosophiesBasic understanding of SCADA systems and substation communicationsExperience performing electrical engineering calculations related to substation designProficiency with MicroStation and AutoCADStrong familiarity with NESC IEEE and other applicable utility industry codes and standardsExperience supporting U.S.-based utility or consulting engineering projects preferredEnglish proficiency at B2 level or higher (required to support U.S.-based teams and clients)Strong communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environmentAbility to manage multiple priorities and project deadlines in a fast-paced consulting environmentDemonstrated commitment to technical excellence and continuous professional developmentPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting transmission substation projects up to and including 500kVExperience with modern digital relays and substation automation systemsFamiliarity with utility protection standards and relay coordination practicesExperience working in an engineering consulting or EPC environmentKnowledge of IEC 61850 and substation communication protocols is a plus
