Team Overview

You will join a multidisciplinary team of statisticians data scientists mathematicians and modelers that transforms information into actionable insights and supports a variety of analytical projects at TransUnion. The team uses analytics and statistical modeling to solve business problems and help internal customers make informed decisions. This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.

Role Overview And Core Responsibilities

  • Lead complex analytical projects from problem definition through delivery translating business questions into structured analytical approaches and meaningful insights.
  • Develop and apply statistical models to address relevant business problems including questions within the consumer lending environment.
  • Evaluate data summary statistics and analytical results to identify underlying patterns and determine the most appropriate direction for further research.
  • Manipulate and analyze large datasets using statistical programming tools and database queries.
  • Communicate analytical concepts methods and findings clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences including senior leaders.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations that connect analytical findings to business needs and recommended actions.
  • Manage project teams and deliverables by delegating work establishing goals providing coaching and feedback and monitoring customer expectations.
  • Guide and train junior analysts on analytical methods project execution and approaches to complex business questions.
  • Lead project contributors with minimal supervision while maintaining engagement initiative and accountability.
  • Build strong internal customer relationships through a responsive service-oriented approach.

Required Knowledge And Experiences

  • Graduate degree in a hard-science discipline with advanced coursework in statistics or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of professional analytical modeling experience solving business-relevant problems.
  • Strong analytical critical-thinking and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome obstacles and develop effective approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and coordinate contributors with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience presenting technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
Required Technical Skills
  • Expert proficiency in at least one statistical programming language such as R or SAS (Statistical Analysis System).
  • Intermediate SQL (Structured Query Language) skills for data extraction.
  • Experience manipulating large datasets using SAS R or another analytical software platform.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Ability to evaluate data and summary statistics and independently perform analysis when needed.

  • Experience managing or providing day-to-day direction to junior analytical professionals.
  • Familiarity with the consumer lending business and the analytical methods used to address complex lending questions.
  • Ability to tailor communication to different organizational levels from entry-level analysts to senior leaders.
  • Strong presentation skills and confidence addressing audiences of approximately 4 to 400 people.
  • Strong internal customer-service orientation and an understanding of the importance of meeting internal customer needs.
