6937 Senior UniData Developer
Job Summary
We are looking for a Senior UniData Developer to take technical ownership of critical areas of a large-scale SaaS platform supporting Payroll HR and Benefits operations.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role with most of the time dedicated to writing debugging optimizing and maintaining production UniData BASIC code. The ideal candidate can independently solve complex problems make technical decisions and improve engineering standards across the team.
- Write debug optimize and own production-quality UniData BASIC code across Payroll HR and Benefits modules.
- Lead complex features end-to-end from technical design and implementation through testing and deployment.
- Establish and enforce standards for code quality file locking error handling and performance within UniData environments.
- Diagnose and resolve complex and systemic production issues across a large-scale payroll SaaS platform.
- Apply deep UniData expertise including READU/RELEASE SELECT cursors MATREAD file locking and phantom/batch processing.
- Use GitHub Copilot Claude Code or similar AI-assisted tools to accelerate development and guide their safe and effective use within UniBasic-specific environments.
- Lead code reviews technical design discussions architectural decisions and early identification of technical risks and debt.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pairing hands-on development and structured technical guidance.
- Collaborate with Product Management QA and Customer Support to translate complex business requirements into reliable and maintainable solutions.
- Contribute to Agile/Scrum activities including sprint planning estimation and technical design.
Required Skills:
7 years of hands-on experience with UniData UniVerse or another MultiValue BASIC platform. Deep knowledge of Payroll or HR business logic including areas such as taxes garnishments and benefits. Expert-level understanding of UniData internals including file locking READU/RELEASE discipline SELECT cursors MATREAD and phantom/batch processing. Proven ability to independently deliver complex solutions within a large legacy production codebase. Professional experience with GitHub Copilot Claude Code or equivalent AI-assisted coding tools. Experience leading technical work within Agile/Scrum teams. Strong experience with Git workflows code reviews and collaborative development practices. Strong written technical communication skills for design documentation pull requests and escalation summaries. Nice to Have Experience with SB or other 4GL environments. Experience designing and consuming REST APIs. Development experience with Java JavaScript or Angular. Previous experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
