Financial Controller
Job Summary
We are looking for a hands on Financial Controller to join our team and take ownership of our day-to-day accounting operations. This role ideal for someone who enjoys being deeply involved in the details while also taking responsibility for the overall integrity of the accounting function.
You will ensure the accuracy and compliance of financial records across multiple entities and currencies supporting monthly and quarterly reporting. The role includes ownership of core accounting processes such as general ledger maintenance inter-company reconciliations VAT filings and audit support while supervising and mentoring a Finance Assistant.

Tasks
Own day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the accuracy of financial records across multiple entities and currencies.
Maintain the general ledger perform reconciliations and oversee accounts payable processes.
Manage inter-company accounting bank reconciliations and fixed asset accounting.
Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and consolidated financial reporting.
Prepare and submit VAT returns tax-related filings and other compliance reports.
Provide financial analysis and reporting support to the Finance Director.
Coordinate external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit requests.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to improve financial systems reporting and processes.
Supervise and mentor the Finance Assistant ensuring high standards of accuracy and compliance.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes and controls.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior accounting role in a complex business environment;
- Fully qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CPA or equivalent) or in final stages of qualification;
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards;
- Experience managing month-end close processes independently;
- Experience with VAT submissions and tax reporting (primarily in Malta);
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Business Central (accounting software) is a must;
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function;
- Ability to work effectively within a wider finance function and cross-functional teams;
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
- Fluency in English - both written and spoken;
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring junior team members is an advantage.
