Job Summary
ABOUT THE ROLE
Digital Sage is hiring a hands-on Lead Full-Stack Product Engineer to take technical ownership of our existing products and build our next marketplace capability. You will personally design build test deploy and improve customer-facing and internal software. You will use AI coding tools to move faster while remaining fully accountable for architecture code quality security maintainability and production reliability.
This is an individual-contributor engineering role. It is not a people-management-only project-management-only or prompt-engineering role. We need someone who can genuinely code understand the business turn unclear operational problems into practical product solutions and take features from idea through production support.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
The technical direction and day-to-day development of the companys digital products.
Frontend backend database API integration and deployment work.
Continuous improvement of existing products including usability reliability performance security and technical debt.
The design and delivery of a scalable multi-sided marketplace connecting customers service providers internal operators and administrators.
The engineering delivery process: scoping technical design implementation review testing documentation release monitoring and incident resolution.
A disciplined AI-assisted development workflow that improves speed without lowering engineering standards.
Clear technical documentation so that systems remain understandable maintainable and transferable.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Full-stack product development
Build responsive accessible and intuitive web applications for customers providers and internal teams.
Develop backend services APIs database models and reliable business workflows.
Create maintainable components and reusable technical patterns.
Implement authentication authorisation role-based access control and appropriate privacy boundaries.
Integrate payment providers messaging email maps analytics storage and other third-party services.
Build reliable webhook background-job and notification workflows.
Handle validation failures retries duplicate submissions idempotency and data consistency.
Write automated tests for important business logic and critical user journeys.
Debug production issues and improve logging monitoring and error handling.
Maintain secure environment configuration secrets and release processes.
Improve performance mobile responsiveness and accessibility.
Marketplace development
You will help build and operate marketplace capabilities including:
Customer registration profiles and service discovery.
Provider onboarding verification profiles and service areas.
Service listings categories descriptions photos pricing and availability.
Search filtering sorting and location-based discovery where appropriate.
Enquiries quotations bookings or orders.
Status workflows such as requested accepted scheduled in progress completed cancelled and disputed.
Customer provider and staff notifications.
Payments deposits refunds commissions payouts and settlement integrations where applicable.
Ratings reviews and service-quality feedback.
Customer-provider communication and human support workflows.
Admin tools for onboarding moderation support disputes exceptions and operational oversight.
Audit trails and accountability for important actions.
Analytics for demand supply conversion fulfilment cancellations service quality and revenue.
Privacy controls ensuring that every user sees only information they are authorised to access.
A foundation that can support additional services providers locations and operating units.
A marketplace is also an operational system. You must think beyond the visible interface and design for cancellations incomplete information failed payments duplicate actions unreliable users disputes and manual intervention.
AI-ASSISTED ENGINEERING
We expect effective use of modern AI coding tools such as Codex Claude Code Cursor GitHub Copilot or equivalent. You should be able to:
Use AI to accelerate exploration implementation refactoring debugging documentation and testing.
Break complex work into clear tasks that AI tools can assist with.
Review every AI-generated change rather than accepting it blindly.
Detect hallucinated APIs incorrect assumptions unsafe code and unnecessary complexity.
Write tests and verification steps for AI-assisted changes.
Protect source code credentials customer information and confidential business data.
Explain the architecture and trade-offs in your own words.
Know when manual implementation independent reasoning or specialist review is required.
AI is a development tool not a substitute for engineering ability. You remain responsible for every change that reaches production.
PRODUCT AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT
Learn how the company its operating units and service teams actually work.
Identify where software can reduce manual work errors and customer friction.
Convert business problems into clear product requirements and technical plans.
Work directly with the founder operators customers and service providers.
Prioritise based on customer value commercial impact risk and effort.
Use analytics user feedback and operational evidence to guide decisions.
Improve onboarding conversion fulfilment retention and support workflows.
Challenge unclear requirements constructively and recommend simpler or stronger solutions.
Avoid building features that are technically impressive but do not solve a real business problem.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
You should have a strong software engineering foundation and practical experience in most of the following:
Software engineering principles data structures algorithms modular architecture debugging code review and maintainable production code.
Modern JavaScript or TypeScript.
React or a comparable frontend framework.
Responsive UI development component systems and modern CSS.
Backend development using Python Go or another production language.
REST APIs webhooks and event-driven integrations.
Relational database design and SQL preferably PostgreSQL.
Authentication authorisation and role-based permissions.
Git-based development code review and release discipline.
Automated testing debugging and regression prevention.
Cloud serverless or managed-platform deployment.
Logging monitoring and production incident diagnosis.
Practical cybersecurity knowledge including secure authentication and authorisation OWASP Top 10 risks input validation secure API design secrets management dependency security encryption logging monitoring and incident response.
Transactional workflows involving bookings orders payments or status changes.
Experience with marketplaces e-commerce SaaS booking platforms payments service operations or logistics is highly valuable. Experience with managed backends cloud platforms or low-code tools is useful but it does not replace the ability to write understand and maintain secure production code.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in software engineering computer science information technology or a related field or equivalent demonstrated production experience.
At least three years of hands-on professional software development experience. Exceptional candidates with less conventional backgrounds may be considered if they show strong production ownership.
Evidence of shipping and maintaining meaningful production software.
Evidence of owning a product or major feature end to end.
A portfolio GitHub profile live product or technical case study that clearly shows your own contribution.
Strong written and spoken English.
Ability to work effectively with a Brunei-based company and operating teams.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
First 30 days: understand and stabilise
Learn the products users business model and operating workflows.
Audit the current codebase architecture data model integrations deployment process and technical risks.
Identify high-impact bugs reliability risks and operational bottlenecks.
Establish a practical development testing and release workflow.
Ship at least one useful low-risk improvement.
Produce a prioritised technical and product roadmap.
By 60 days: own delivery
Take a complete feature from requirements through production release.
Deliver an initial marketplace vertical slice such as provider onboarding service listing customer request and basic fulfilment.
Improve automated tests error handling logging and release checks.
Establish baseline product and operational metrics.
Improve one significant customer or operator workflow.
By 90 days: deliver the foundation
Release a usable marketplace MVP or controlled pilot depending on the existing product foundation.
Support core roles listings requests or bookings status management notifications and administration.
Demonstrate reliable handling of permissions failures duplicate actions and auditability.
Establish a sustainable AI-assisted engineering workflow with review and quality controls.
Reduce measurable technical debt or recurring operational work.
Present a six-to-twelve-month roadmap for marketplace expansion product improvement reliability and security.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to complete a small paid marketplace-focused technical assessment involving a customer-to-provider workflow data model permissions failure handling tests and explanation of how AI tools were used.
This is a full-time role based in Bandar Seri Begawan Brunei. The person must be willing to remain hands-on and become the day-to-day owner of engineering delivery.
