Head of InfrastructureTT
Job Summary
Were looking for a hands-on Head of Infrastructure to own secure and scale the entire multi-cloud infrastructure stack for a fast-growing tech company operating in a highly regulated space. This is a Director-level individual contributor role built for a builder rather than a manager: youll set technical standards and drive execution yourself not through a team. Youll be the top technical authority on infrastructure running production Kubernetes environments across AWS and GCP and driving Infrastructure as Code adoption with Pulumi. Compliance is core to the role youll keep the infrastructure aligned with HIPAA and SOC2 as the company scales. Were looking for someone with genuine builder energy: someone who takes extreme ownership of production systems ships ambitiously and would rather build the right solution from scratch than just manage around existing problems. This role reports at the leadership level but carries no direct reports giving you full autonomy to focus on hands-on technical execution.

About the project:
The company operates in a highly regulated technology space where data sensitivity and compliance are business-critical requiring rigorous adherence to standards like HIPAA and SOC2. Its infrastructure spans multiple cloud providers with a production environment built around Kubernetes and managed through Infrastructure as Code. As the company scales it needs a single technical owner who can hold the entire infrastructure stack to a high bar from architecture and security to observability and incident response without the overhead of a large team. The engineering culture values hands-on ownership over process: people are expected to build ship and fix things themselves rather than delegate or manage from a distance. The organization works closely with backend engineers building infrastructure-adjacent systems including graph and document databases so cross-functional technical guidance matters as much as pure infrastructure work. This is a lean high-trust environment where a proactive builder can have an outsized direct impact on how reliably and securely the company operates.
You have:
- Hands-on experience building and running production infrastructure in regulated environments (HIPAA SOC2 GDPR or similar)
- Deep production expertise with Kubernetes and multi-cloud architectures specifically AWS and GCP
- A proven track record implementing Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi or Terraform) and observability/incident response systems
- Current or very recent experience working as an individual contributor rather than as a pure people manager
- Ideally hands-on production experience with graph databases (Neo4j Amazon Neptune) and document storage (Firestore MongoDB)
- Ideally experience providing technical leadership to backend engineers building infrastructure-adjacent systems
- A history of proactive problem-solving such as auditing systems and flagging critical issues independently
- Genuine builder energy: extreme ownership of production systems and a preference for shipping ambitiously over managing existing problems
What to do:
- Own secure and scale the companys entire multi-cloud infrastructure stack end to end
- Design run and harden production Kubernetes environments across AWS and GCP
- Drive Infrastructure as Code adoption and standards using Pulumi
- Build and maintain observability and incident response systems for production infrastructure
- Ensure infrastructure practices meet HIPAA and SOC2 compliance requirements as the company scales
- Make build-vs-buy calls on infrastructure solutions weighing custom builds against vendor tools
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to backend engineers working on infrastructure-adjacent systems
- Proactively audit existing systems and infrastructure to catch and flag critical issues before they become incidents
- Define technical standards for infrastructure across the organization acting as the senior technical authority without managing a team
