UXUI Designer

About the role

SchEDShape is looking for a UX and Ul Designer to join as the sole design contributor working directly with Product Data and Engineering to shape the interface across our product. Youll own the design process end to end from early exploration through shipped polished wireframes and act as the primary voice for visual and interaction design as we build out an EdTech/SaaS platform used by school principals and administrators.

This is a high-ownership role: youll set and run your own design process work closely with PMs and engineers to turn requirements into interfaces and use your judgment on where design effort is best spent. Because youll be the only designer were also looking for someone with range able to flex into light graphic design and website work (managed through a CMS) when core product design work is between cycles. Youll have the opportunity to join a high-potential product already serving customers led by founders with a strong reputation and proven influence in the space.

What youll do

• Own end-to-end user experience and user interface design for the product from requirements and wireframes through high-fidelity design and handoff to engineering.
• Partner directly with Product Data and Engineering to translate feature requirements and user needs into clear usable interfaces.
• Establish and maintain a lightweight effective design process appropriate for a sole-contributor design function (critique review documentation handoff).
• Build and maintain a design system/component library.
• Conduct or coordinate light user research and usability feedback.
• Ensure shipped designs match the approved mockups maintain client design requests update and maintain user guide and review documentation created from the Product and data team.
• During lulls in core product Ul work contribute to supporting design needs: marketing graphics presentation/deck design and updates to the company marketing website via Wix (Wix Studio).
• Advocate for design quality and usability across the team balancing craft with shipping speed.
• Design and audit interfaces for ADA / Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.

What were looking for

• Solid demonstrable product design experience (portfolio required) roughly 3-5 years minimum designing digital products.
• Experience owning the User Experience and User Interface design as a sole or lead contributor running your own process with minimal oversight
• Strong command of Figma including component systems auto-layout and prototyping.
• Comfort working directly with engineers on implementation details and handoff.
• Experience in EdTech and/or SaaS products strongly preferred.
• Strong visual design fundamentals: typography layout color interaction design.
• Clear communicator who can present and defend decisions to Product and Engineering stakeholders.

Nice to have

• General graphic design skills (marketing collateral social assets).
• Basic web design/website maintenance using a CMS or website builder.
• Experience with design systems at a growing startup.
