Senior Back-End (Event/Data Streaming) Java Engineer

Tasks

Your task will require the development of new approaches, e.g., through new technologies. Besides the development work in the traditional sense, a considerable part of your work will be research & pioneering work.

You will work with low-level data streaming technologies, technologies for distributed, scalable systems (clusters), and with Apache Kafka or Amazon Kinesis components.

You'll be surrounded by equally intelligent, motivated and creative minds to solve deep, technical problems in the context of real-time data/event streaming and highly distributed software systems.

• You support the conception of the next features of our product and technology.
• You document the design & extract individual tasks from a user story.
• You lead code reviews & advise on technological, strategic questions & architecture.
• You are not afraid to try or develop unconventional ways and new approaches.
• You create Docker containers & test environments, build automations and integration tests.
• You will mainly code in Java (or Scala).
• You'll be working on KaDeck, but most importantly also on an innovative new product.

Requirements

We are an exceptional team and we are looking for the best.

Whether you're a lateral recruit or have an academic background, you need to know and understand the technologies and challenges of distributed, reactive and resilient systems. You should be familiar with real-time data streaming technologies or at least be able to understand and develop the associated technologies in the shortest possible time. You should be familiar with software architectures and common patterns (e.g., Quorum, consensus).

The code you write must of course follow typical quality criteria and practices.

Must-haves:

• Our product consists of a Java application that is a real-time distributed data streaming system.

• Architecture patterns/code patterns in this context should be familiar to you (circuit breakers, messaging, ).

• Experience with Microservices, Data Processing (e.g., ETL, Streaming or others) and Big Data.

• Experience with SQL & NoSQL databases

• No (at)Spring!

• Knowledge about the JVM and (performance) pitfalls (e.g., garbage collection).

• You should be able to handle tools like Gradle (or Maven), Git & Intellij and Docker without any issues.

• Hands-on experience with automated integration testing & unit testing required.

• UML diagrams should not cause you any problems. Clean code is a must.

• You should be driven by the same technology-loving, innovative inventive spirit that drives us.

• You get a lot of freedom to implement your ideas.

• Initiative, independent work and creativity are important.

• Our content & documentation is mainly written in English our clients are spread all over the world (America, Russia, India, Europe, ), but only a few in Germany.

• So you should be fit in written English.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with Akka, Vert.X or similar would be perfect.
• Experience with Bitbucket is helpful.
• Experience with Data Mesh, Serverless, AWS is nice to have.
• Experience with Helidon.
• Experience with Apache Kafka (or Apache Flink, Nifi, Beam, Pulsar ...) would be ideal.
