Procedures are performed throughout the hospital as well as in surgery and the emergency room. Services are delivered to all age groups. The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for patient safety protocols. Works closely with the Radiologists to provide imaging needs to consumers. Participates in CQI activities. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Professional Requirements: Attends required inservice education. Works well with others; a team player. Accepts responsibility; follows through to completion of project or task. Listens attentively ask questions if instructions are not clearly understood. Speaks clearly calmly and professionally even when under pressure. Deals appropriately with all consumers; always professional doesn t make inappropriate remarks. Understands the big picture; the importance of their job tasks in the overall diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Maintains work area in a clean neat and organized manner. Demonstrates knowledge and accurate use of hospital computer system. Makes the correct decision; does the right thing for patient safety and consumer relations. Helps new employees in the orientation process teaches duties and responsibilities accurately. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock burns and extraneous radiation to patients. Responsible for safe handling of equipment and films. Instructs and prepares patients for roentgenographic and/or fluoroscopic examinations. Selects appropriate equipment to use for procedure. Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions and shields patients accordingly. Makes special radiographic examinations requiring special equipment and procedures such as: intravenous pyelograms intravenous cholangiograms bronchograms mammograms hysterosalpingograms tomograms cholangiography arthrograms myelograms and hip pinnings in surgery. Programs portable or stationary xray machines and makes radiograms for a variety of examinations. Transfers images to PACS system Transports patients to and from radiology department to various locations in the hospital when necessary. Safely administers IV contrast material appropriately monitors patients and recognizes early stages of allergic reaction. Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures. Assists in maintaining basic records and reports. Assists in maintaining files. Assists in training of students and ancillary personnel. Interacts professionally with patient/family physicians and coworkers. Completes all work before clocking out and leaving. This includes appropriate documentation paper work computer entries area stocking and cleaning. Maintains all license as required. Maintains emergency equipment in appropriate manner ready for immediate use. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient including pediatric geriatric and general population. Participates in agespecific competency process. Education/Regulatory Requirements: High School graduate or equivalent. Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Certified by the State of Mississippi to practice and administer radiation. Current BCLS certification. Language Skills: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages may be helpful. Skills: Moderate to advanced computer and data entry skills. Good communication skills; both listening and speaking. All clinical skills associated with that of a Radiologic technologist; positioning technique anatomy IV maintenance. Specific Age Groups Served: All age groups. Exposure Classifications: Classification I: Jobs in which required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membranes or skin contact with blood body fluids tissues or potential spills or splashes.
