CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3:The post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff. | ||||

We carry out both long-term development work and more recently emergency humanitarian work. This project aims that children and youth in vulnerable situations have their rights respected and possess sound self-reliance capacities that allow them to improve their life perspectives. It will also target national and community organizations to enable them to provide effective protection and self-reliance services for children and youth. | ||||
ROLE PURPOSE: The key purpose of this post is to provide psychosocial support services in compliance with the relevant SCI guidelines at the country office level in support migrant and refugee children under East African Migration Routes (EAMR) project. Under the supervision of the Mental Health and Psycho-social Support (MHPSS) Officer and the (MHPSS) Technical Advisor (TA) The MHPSS Counselor will contribute directly to protection case management processes by providing individual/group sessions for at risk children and youth in need of psychosocial support identified through the project activities and referrals from case management team and protection team. S/he will be responsible to conduct the needed assessments and customize the session topics based on the identified needs of the target group. S/he will also be responsible for organizing group support and awareness sessions to children at risk and their families and refer those with acute psychological needs to specialized services. | ||||

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: A university degree in psychology. 2-3 years of experience in family and/or child individual and group counselling experience in working with migrants and refugees is an asset. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team-leading and influencing. Extensive experience in delivering training. Excellent written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English are required. Comfortable with high levels of ambiguity and able to take decisions independently in a fluid context. Experience with refugee/marginalized communities desired. Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding. | ||||
