About the Role
Oryx University invites applications for a Full-Time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering under a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI. The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate with strong experimental analytical and numerical modelling capabilities who can actively contribute to advanced geotechnical research activities.
Key Responsibilities
Independently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing
Ensure laboratory testing is conducted in accordance with relevant standards and best practices.
Analyse experimental results interpret soil behaviour and provide technical commentary and recommendations.
Identify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions when required.
Contribute to the modification and optimisation of laboratory testing procedures.
Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D.
Prepare high-quality technical and research reports including data interpretation and discussion.
Support literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectives.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining a high level of independence.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
Bachelors degree in civil engineering with a strong Geotechnical Engineering background.
Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering (highly preferred).
Demonstrated hands-on experience with triaxial (UU CU CD) and direct shear testing.
Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation.
Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D.
Strong technical writing documentation and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently manage laboratory activities and meet project deadlines.
Desirable Attributes

Experience working in experimental research laboratories.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
