ABOUT WFP

We are currently seeking a Junior Professional Officer to fill the position of Private Sector Partnerships Officer GCC with our Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) based in Dubai United Arab Emirates.

CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND

WFP and its partners believe that no child should go to bed hungry and that individual and collective wellbeing can only be achieved if all children women and men get the nutritious food they need to lead healthy dignified lives. Each year WFP assists 86.7 million people in 83 countries. Every day some 5600 WFP-chartered trucks are on the road 92 planes are in the air and 20 ships are at sea. These numbers speak to WFPs unparalleled reputation as an emergency responder one that is often the first on the scene in the most difficult environments. WFP also works with partners to strengthen the resilience of communities most vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition through long-term development programmes aimed at boosting food security local economies education employment and gender equality. While hunger and malnutrition are the worlds largest solvable issues the needs are still immense and growing. 343 million people in the world are estimated to be acutely food insecure in 2024.

To get to a world with Zero Hunger faster WFP is investing in and growing private sector fundraising and partnerships to reach more people. The Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) is responsible for engaging the private sector (corporations individuals foundations) through high-impact partnerships in support of WFPs strategic priorities and through individual giving to build and retain support from the general public worldwide. PSP strives to mobilize funding technical assistance innovative solutions and visibility and awareness to help WFP fulfil its mission and operations. PSP also provides guidance to WFP Regional Bureaux (RB) Country Offices (COs) and HQ Functional Units on partnership development best practices compliance and rules and regulations for engaging with the private sector.

Joining the PSP team is an exciting opportunity. The purpose of this engagement is to establish a fit-for-purpose Zakat governance framework for WFP and to provide continued assurance that Zakat activities remain compliant and well governed.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Duration of assignment: 3 Months

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Islamic Giving Advisor will play a key role in designing and documenting a Zakat policy from a reputed Muslim Authority and will seek guidance on maintaining and reporting lines for this Zakat compliancy.

They will also conduct a review existing processes and end-to-end fund flows and recommend corrective actions to align with Islamic giving and will provide ongoing advisory certification and compliance reviews.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and documenting a Zakat policy and seek guidance on maintaining and reporting lines for this Zakat compliancy.

  • Review existing processes and end-to-end fund flows and recommend corrective actions.

  • Provide ongoing advisory certification and compliance reviews.

  • Run a diagnostic review of current processes projects and end-to-end Zakat fund flows
  • Develop Zakat compliance policies procedures and internal controls.
  • Create a roadmap with prioritised actions responsibilities and monitoring KPIs
  • Coordinate with WFP legal audit finance and risk teams will be undertaken as needed.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

Key deliverables include:

Zakat policy and controls manual

Process maps and checklists

Diagnostic report with findings and recommendations

  • Producing high-quality proposals and reports presentations and quality briefing materials to senior management.
  • Completing landscape mapping and developing sector strategies around Islamic Giving.
  • Creating compelling materials and value propositions to support WFPs engagement on Islamic Giving.
  • Maintaining accurate reporting and monitoring progress against KPIs and set targets.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced university degree in Political Science International Development Development Economics International Relations Law Marketing Communications or other relevant field or first university degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
  • At least 15 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in Partnerships roles
  • Experience in communications advocacy and/or marketing for international organizations or related.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in teams promoting an inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency (level C) in both oral and written communication in English language.
  • Proficiency in Windows MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)
  • Behavioural competencies: leads by example with integrity drives results and delivers on commitments fosters inclusive and collaborative teamwork applies strategic thinking builds and maintains sustainable partnerships.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Exposure to the international arena either by direct work for an international institution/organization or by interacting with international stakeholders
  • Intermediate level of one or more of the following official languages: French Spanish Arabic Chinese Russian Portuguese

The Islamic Giving Advisor will be reporting to Deputy Director of PSP.
