A BIM Lead Electricalis a discipline-focused BIM professional responsible for managing coordinating and delivering high-quality electrical BIM models within the project. They work closely with BIM Managers BIM Coordinators Electrical Engineers and other design disciplines to ensure accurate modelling seamless coordination and full compliance with BIM standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Implementing Electrical BIM Standards & Workflows

• Ensure electrical discipline teams follow the approved BIM standards LOD/LOI requirements templates and modelling workflows.

• Maintain accuracy and consistency across electrical models and documentation.

Managing Electrical BIM Production

• Supervise Electrical BIM Modelers and Technicians.

• Assign modelling tasks track progress and review outputs for accuracy and compliance.

• Validate electrical system modelling including:

  • Lighting

  • Power

  • Low current systems

  • Cable routing & containment

  • Earthing & lightning protection

Supporting Design Coordination

• Work closely with the BIM Manager and BIM Coordinators during clash detection and federated model reviews.

• Identify document and resolve clashes related to electrical services with architectural structural and MEP disciplines.

Providing Technical Electrical BIM Support

• Assist team members with modelling techniques parameter setup system mapping and software troubleshooting.

• Train new team members on electrical discipline standards and BIM workflows.

Ensuring Electrical BIM Compliance

• Confirm that models align with BEP MIDIP MDS ISO 19650 requirements and project-specific guidelines.

• Maintain metadata accuracy shared parameters and proper naming conventions.

Model Publishing & Data Exchange

• Manage the upload review and publication of electrical models within CDE platforms (e.g. BIM 360).

• Maintain proper folder hierarchy and model versioning.

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare discipline BIM documentation schedules and deliverables.

• Update electrical BIM logs issue sheets clash reports and progress dashboards.

Key Result Areas:

• Contributing electrical inputs for the Pre-Contract & Post-Contract BEP

• Developing and updating electrical sections of MIDIP MDS MBS

• Generating electrical clash matrices and resolving system conflicts

• Producing required electrical LOI parameters and maintaining consistency

• Delivering electrical components for the Federated Model on time

• Maintaining discipline structure within the CDE (BIM 360)

• Ensuring full compliance with BS EN ISO 19650

• Running electrical QA/QC checks before internal and external submissions

• Supporting weekly coordination meetings with updated models and reports

• Publishing electrical models on BIM 360 per schedule

• Creating discipline-specific Revit families templates and 3D objects for ASR BIM Library

• Preparing validation reports for milestone BIM packages

• Delivering electrical drawings schematics and 3D/IFC models (CAD PDF Revit Navisworks IFC)

• Ensuring compliance with COBie and asset data requirements for electrical systems

• Managing discipline team to deliver BIM tasks efficiently and accurately

Job-Specific Skills:

Electrical BIM Software Proficiency

• Advanced skills in:

  • Autodesk Revit (Electrical systems)

  • Navisworks Manage

  • BIM 360

  • Dynamo (preferred)

  • AutoCAD MEP (advantage)

Electrical Modelling Expertise

• Strong understanding of electrical design fundamentals and how they translate into BIM modelling.

• Ability to model and coordinate:

  • Distribution boards

  • Lighting layouts

  • Cable tray routing

  • LV & ELV systems

  • Fire alarm & security systems

  • Generator & UPS layouts

Discipline-Level BIM Workflows

• Deep understanding of electrical systems workflows and clash risks.

• Ability to guide modelers in creating efficient clean and coordinated models.

BIM Data & Parameters Management

• Strong experience in shared parameters schedules tagging systems asset data and COBie requirements.

Coordination Capability

• Ability to run clash tests analyse issues propose solutions and communicate effectively with other disciplines.

BIM Documentation

• Ability to produce electrical BIM documentation: drawings schedules BOQs (if needed) reports and submissions.

Generic Skills:

• Strong technical understanding of electrical design and BIM modelling

• Excellent communication skills for coordination with multi-disciplinary teams

• Critical problem-solving skills in electrical modelling and coordination

• Ability to lead and support electrical BIM team members

• Strong project management skills for tracking deliverables

• Business awareness for understanding cost time and productivity impacts

Qualifications:

• BSc in Electrical Engineering

• Years of Experience:

  • 7 to 12 years total experience

• Proven experience in delivering electrical BIM models for large-scale projects
