Location:
Offshore Qatar (North Field Halul Island or Contracted Rigs)
Employment Type: Rotational (e.g. 28/28 or 42/21 days)
Reporting To: Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) / Rig Manager
Key Responsibilities:
1. Marine & Stability Operations
Ensure stability and seaworthiness of the jackup rig during transit jacking and operational phases.
Monitor ballast control systems leg penetration and seabed conditions.
Supervise preloading operations and ensure compliance with class society rules (ABS DNV Lloyds).
2. Maintenance & Mechanical Systems
Oversee marine systems including:
o Ballast pumps piping and valves
o Jacking systems (rack & pinion hydraulic elevators)
o Cranes winches and mooring equipment (if applicable)
Coordinate with Chief Mechanic & Electrician for integrated repairs.
3. Regulatory & Safety Compliance
Ensure compliance with Qatar Energy (QP) standards IMO regulations and Qatar Ministry of Transport requirements.
Conduct stability calculations and maintain trim & stability booklet.
Lead emergency drills (collision grounding leg failure scenarios).
4. Crew & Contractor Management
Supervise deck crew ballast control operators and marine subcontractors.
Liaise with Qatar Port Authorities and supply vessel crews during cargo operations.
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain rig logs class certificates and flag state documentation.
Report incidents to QE Nakilat or vessel owner as required.
Qualifications & Certifications
Mandatory:
STCW III/1 or III/2 (Chief Engineer or Second Engineer Unlimited)
Barge Engineer Certification (or equivalent marine engineering qualification).
5 years offshore experience (3 as Barge Engineer on jackup rigs).
Stability Software Proficiency (e.g. Loadicator Kongsberg systems).
Qatar-Specific Requirements:
QP/QE Safety Passport
BOSIET/FOET with HUET (Offshore Survival & Helicopter Escape)
Qatar Ministry of Public Health Medical Certificate
Preferred:
Dynamic Positioning (DP) Awareness (if rig has DP-assisted positioning).
Experience with Middle East rig operators (e.g. Gulf Drilling Shelf Drilling).
Expected Salary in Qatar (2025)
$ 400 / day
