About the Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer you serve as a technical leader and subject matter expertin backend systems cloud architecture and data-intensive workflows. You are responsible for designing and delivering scalable secure and high-performance solutions that address complex business needs across multiple products and teams. Your work is instrumental in advancing Wileys customer insight platforms and operational efficiency.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy you drive architectural decisions implement best practices and lead strategic technical initiatives that impact short- and long-term business goals. You frequently engage with stakeholders to interpret internal and external challenges shaping solutions that optimize cost performance and user experience.

Beyond delivering code you contribute to Wileys technology vision by mentoring engineers fostering cross-functional collaboration and proactively identifying opportunities for innovation automation and system optimization. Your contributions directly influence product evolution data strategy and platform growth.

How you will make an impact:

• Drive technical decisions around architecture scalability and system design.

• Partners with architects business analysts and senior engineers to lead the strategic design and full lifecycle development of applications. Ensures that both logical and physical architectures are aligned with business goals technical standards and long-term platform vision.

• Identify and drive continuous improvements to platform performance observability and deployment workflows.

• Provide operational support for Atypons Publishing Platform including 24/7 incident response system maintenance release management for Agile projects and troubleshooting across various types of applicationsincluding cloud-native on-premise and hybrid systems.

• Lead end-to-end development of strategic initiatives from architectural planning through implementation and delivery ensuring alignment with business objectives and technical standards

• Take ownership of mission-critical data pipelines and ETL workflows powering Wileys Insights platform. Ensure these pipelines are reliable scalable and well-monitored.

• Experience working with cloud-native infrastructure containerization (e.g. Docker Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform).

• Knowledge of data governance privacy compliance and secure data architecture principles.

What we look for:

• BSc in Computer Science or related field.

• 5 years of professional experience in backend development and data platform engineering including leadership of strategic technical initiatives.

• Experience working in publishing analytics or customer insight platforms.

• Deep expertise in backend engineering using Java and modern architectural patterns (e.g. microservices event-driven systems serverless).

• Hands-on experience with modern data processing frameworks and pipeline orchestration including both batch and real-time workflows.

• Advanced knowledge of cloud infrastructure and services particularly Google Cloud Platform (e.g. BigQuery Pub/Sub Cloud Run GCS).

• Familiarity with analytics and visualization platforms such as Looker and their integration with backend systems.

• roven experience designing and owning large-scale data platforms including ETL/ELT workflows real-time and batch data processing.

• Exposure to recommendation systems user segmentation or personalization strategies.

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical initiatives from concept to production aligning solutions with business goals.

• Experience working with cloud-native infrastructure containerization (e.g. Docker Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g. Terraform).

• Committed to engineering excellence mentoring peers and fostering a high-performance collaborative team culture.

• Strong proficiency in SQL including complex query design optimization and working with analytical databases.

• Experience serving as a tech lead or architecture delegate across multiple teams or domains.
