The General Foreman is the key supervisory position on the construction site responsible for the direct management and coordination of all trade foremen skilled labor and daily workflow execution across multiple disciplines (e.g. civil structural finishing). This role ensures that work is executed safely efficiently to the required quality standard and strictly adheres to the project schedule and technical specifications. The General Foreman reports directly to the Site Manager or Project Manager.
Core Duties & Responsibilities (Briefs)
Labor Management: Direct motivate and manage all site labor foremen and crew assignments ensuring adequate staffing levels for scheduled activities.
Safety Enforcement: Ensure all work is conducted in full compliance with HSE procedures. Conduct safety briefings (Toolbox Talks) and immediately correct unsafe acts or conditions.
Schedule Execution: Implement the short-term look-ahead schedule allocate resources (manpower equipment materials) and drive daily production to meet project milestones.
Quality Control (QC): Work closely with the QC team and Site Engineers to ensure that materials and installation methods meet approved quality standards before and during execution.
Coordination: Coordinate activities between different trades (e.g. structural and MEP) to prevent conflicts minimize downtime and maintain a seamless workflow.
Material Tracking: Oversee the proper use security and economical consumption of materials on site coordinating with the Store Keeper regarding required quantities.
Problem-Solving: Act as the first point of contact for resolving day-to-day site operational issues escalating technical or design problems to the Site Engineer.
Reporting: Submit daily progress reports labor productivity tracking and incident reports to site management.
Requirements
Key Requirements & Skills
Experience: Extensive practical experience in construction supervision typically requiring 8 years in the field with at least 3 years in a General Foreman or Senior Supervisory role on large-scale projects.
Technical Acumen: Comprehensive knowledge of various construction trades (e.g. concrete works steel erection finishing) and ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Leadership: Proven leadership and motivational skills to effectively manage large diverse labor forces and drive productivity.
Safety Certification: Relevant safety training (e.g. OSHA Supervisor training basic first aid) is essential.
Communication: Strong verbal communication skills (English and local language if applicable) to give clear concise instructions to foremen and workers.
Scheduling: Basic understanding of project scheduling principles and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to make rapid practical and safe decisions under pressure.
