The Role
The HV Technician is a hands-on technical expert responsible for maintaining troubleshooting and installing high-voltage equipment across our terminals and associated facilities. This role is critical to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and operational efficiency in a fast-paced safety-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HV equipment to maximize reliability
- Respond promptly to breakdowns or faults restoring power safely and efficiently
- Collaborate with engineers grid operators and technical teams during upgrades shutdowns and troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair faults in HV systems replacing defective components as needed
- Conduct electrical testing and commissioning ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards
- Install HV equipment including transformers switchgear circuit breakers and protection systems
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities test results and incidents
- Implement strict safety protocols including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures

Essential Experience
- 35 years working with high-voltage systems and related equipment
- Strong understanding of HV electrical principles circuit theory transformers relays and switchgear
- Skilled in using HV testing tools (insulation resistance testers HV testers multimeters clamp meters)
- Deep knowledge of electrical safety standards and PPE requirements
Education & Certifications
- Diploma or degree (BAC 2) in Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering or related field
- Certification in HV systems (e.g. HV Switching Operations OSHA or equivalent)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with utility-scale power distribution systems
- Familiarity with SCADA systems or substation automation
- Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards
Skills & Attributes
- Physically fit for work in confined spaces heights and demanding environments
- High attention to detail and safety awareness
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in diverse teams
Working Conditions
- Location: Ports substations industrial facilities or infrastructure projects
- Hours: Full-time with potential shift work weekends and emergency call-outs
- Environment: High-risk electrical settings and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
