Objective of the Role
Under the supervision of the Jordan Projects Coordinator the Youth and Community Engagement OfficerVoice Moreis responsible for supporting the delivery of the youth support intervention Voice More within War Child Jordan in line with quality standards. VoiceMore is War Childs youth advocates development programme which empowers young people affected by armed conflict to share their experiences and act on issues impacting young people. Groups discuss and debate how conflict affects children and youth in their area and what they feel could be done to help improve their lives. They are then supported to design and run their own advocacy projects in their local community with War Child helping them elevate these concerns onto national and international platforms.
Aims and Objectives
- Support young people to identify the challenges they and other children and youth face in the regions and country where they live and to undertake advocacy action which brings about positive change within their communities and beyond.
- Enable young people to improve their well-being by gaining confidence knowledge and skills to honestly express their views needs and rights including understanding how to conduct research and advocacy.
- Promote the participation of youth in decision-making and raise the voices of young people affected by conflict to those in power.
As Youth and community engagement officer- Voice More Officer you will be responsible for supporting and guiding the young people through all programme stages including preparing for and facilitating each training components. You will take responsibility for recruitment and selection of young people ensuring the safety of activities supporting good team dynamics and motivation and helping the young people reflect and evaluate their work. You will ensure they are able to develop and implement advocacy action to support change on the issue they identify. This will include working at local regional or even national level to raise their concerns and recommendations. You will work collaboratively within your own country team and with the central War Child Advocacy Team to identify opportunities to drive their advocacy action forward and promote sustainability in the work as well as collaborating closely with in-country partners and local communities to ensure the proper implementation of WCA EBMs and WCA funded projects.
Position within the Organization
The Youth and community engagement officer- Voice More is part of the Jordan Hub and reports to the Projects Coordinator. The role holder gets on a regular basis technical supervision and support from the War Child Syria/Jordan Response Program Quality and Development team and global Voice More Advisor
Result Areas
Technical Support and Program Development:
- Acting as the main contact person and coordinator for all VoiceMore programme activity conducted with the group(s).
- Provide technical guidance to partner Voice Morefacilitators anddeliveringappropriateinterventions in linewith localcontextandglobal standards.
- Supportindesigninganddevelopingvoice more initiativesandactivitieswithin War Childprogramme strategy to develop evidence-based programming.
- Conduct regular field visit and follow-up withpartnerfocal pointson project activities inorder tomaintain thequalityofimplementationofEBMsactivitiesandidentifyopportunitiesconstraints and any adjustments needed including additional staffing or staff training.
- Ensure programme activity follows the VoiceMore Handbook and adheres to the quality standards outlined.
Delivery of Voice More capacity building:
- Organise and facilitate the VoiceMore trainings for the young people and support them with other activities outlined in the programme method such as creating their own advocacy plan and evaluating their personal development and advocacy action at project end.
- The organisation and facilitation of regular group meetings with members providing support encouragement and motivation to young people good team dynamics and ensuring their active participation in activities.
Internal and external coordination and representation:
- Represent War Childin relevant external coordination platforms/networks .
- Organise and coordinate local activities meetings and events for the group related to their advocacy theme and plan.
- Researching and identifying local and national advocacy opportunities in coordination with your country team and with the support of the Youth Advocacy and Participation Adviser in London Advocacy Team.
- Lead all logistical preparations and implementation processes for the Voice More initiative ensuring adherence to internal procurement procedures including prepare and verify purchase documentation in full compliance with WCA policies procedures and approved templates.
- Support partner participation in coordination mechanisms (WGs) and ensure two-way information sharing with War Child technical teams.
- Contribute to the development/revision of Voice More materials in line with contextualized inputs from working groups/platforms/networks.
- Sharechildprotectionmaterialsandotherusefulandrelevantinformationincluding tools and methodologies with staff and partners.
Quality Assurance Learning and Accountability
- Providing regular updates and reports on Voice More activities as required under the funder / donor requirements and / or War Childs own internal MEAL activities.
- Ensuring the safety and well-being of young people throughout the programme including risk assessing activities.
- Contribute to creating a culture committed to the safeguarding of children and adults and compliant to War Child UKs Child Safeguarding and Adults at Risk Policies.
- Promote ethical and child-sensitive data collection and information management among partners.
- Support the implementation of child-friendly feedback and complaints mechanisms and ensure learning from feedback is documented and used.
- Monitor alignment of CP interventions with the CP Minimum Standards Inter-Agency Guidelines and War Childs Quality Benchmarks.
Additionaljobresponsibilities
The listed duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake additional duties as reasonable in relation to their skills and apart from their hub-specific tasks collaborative projects may require cross- hub engagement to utilize our organizations specialized expertise. Staff are encouraged to participate actively in such collaborations leveraging their strengths to contribute effectively across hubs.
