Purpose

The Operations Controller plays a critical role in ensuring smooth efficient and safe vessel yard and gate operations. By monitoring live activities resolving exceptions and coordinating across functions in the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) this role ensures the highest productivity levels while supporting continuous improvement and knowledge transfer.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor live vessel yard and gate operations to ensure seamless execution and achievement of operational targets.
  • Ensure work instructions are carried out without interruption and proactively optimize equipment deployment through systems like Primeroute or crane pooling.
  • Act as the first line of support for operational exceptions coordinating with RCCs QCCs and other stakeholders to maintain productivity.
  • Handle equipment stops (ShCs DSTSs ARMGs) and collaborate with other IOC functions for quick resolution.
  • Conduct root cause analyses on operational failures (including systems-related) and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives performing checks on short-term operational plans and recommending corrective actions.
  • Train new PCOs ensuring effective knowledge transfer and capability building within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with the planning function to ensure alignment and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure strict compliance with terminal safety rules addressing unsafe behavior or practices immediately.
  • Contribute actively to projects that drive efficiency productivity and process optimization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Lean-minded: Someone who thrives in dynamic environments pays attention to detail solves problems quickly and drives continuous improvement in every task.

  • Masters degree in Information Technology Automation Industrial Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field).
  • Knowledge or experience in software development is an advantage.
  • Lean & Six Sigma certification is highly valued.
  • Previous experience in automated production manufacturing or terminal operations is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations safe working procedures and material handling practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to resolve issues in a short timeframe.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • High level of integrity teamwork and collaboration in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English (French and local language proficiency is a plus).
  • Proven ability to work independently while maintaining effective relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
