Call for PhD Applications:Evaluating the Impact of Sustainable Business Models in Africa
PhD Supervisors:
Dr. Dirk Michael Boehe (Full Professor in Strategic Management)
Funding: 4-year doctoral contract starting in October 2025
Location: Rabat Morocco
Prerequisites: Master degree in Business & Management Collective Intelligence
Engineering Economics (and fields of research related to the project)prior research experience.
Application process: description
The projects overarching aim consists of contributing to the development of business models that realize multipleeconomic social and environmentalsustainability goals within the African context. Accordingly this OCP Foundation funded project has both a scientific and an applied nature as it seeks to contribute to educational and business transformation alongside producing scientific impact. The PhD candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary project team and create new knowledge on the underlying principles and mechanisms that allow firms to simultaneously pursue and achieve multiple sustainability goals.

The successful candidate will accompany the different phases of above-mentioned project collect and analyze primary and secondary data on sustainable business model from different African countries write up several manuscripts for high-quality academic journals transfer the results to education technology application and conduct large-scale tests using experimental designs among other activities.

Which factors shape the environmental social and financial impact of sustainable business models
How can sustainable business models and their associated risks and opportunities be effectively simulated
Skills
You have a solid academic background excellent English skills and experience in at least one of the following research skills: quantitative research experimental designs systems dynamics and simulations. You have strong analytical skills; you are self-motivated and you are able to deliver high-quality output under severe time pressure and you are resilient to stress and setbacks.
Supervisor information
Dr. Boehe is Full Professor of Strategic Management at Africa Business School (ABS). Before joining ABS Dirk held full-time faculty positions as professor of international business at Massey University New Zealand the University of Adelaide Australia Insper Brazil and the University of Fortaleza Brazil. He held several academic leadership roles such as Director of the Master of International Business and of the PhD Program (University of Adelaide; ABS) Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies in Business Administration and Director of the Postgraduate Program in Business Administration (Brazil). In addition he gained industry experience in international logistics export advising and market research among others. Dirk has published over 40 studies in prestigious international journals as well as books and book chapters (see his profile here).
