Job introduction

BBC Arabic is the largest of the BBCs forty language services providing multimedia content on BBC platforms and through social media to our Arabic speaking audiences in the Middle East and across the world 24 hours per day seven days a week.

Our output is contemporary in style and outlook and adheres to BBC Values of accuracy and impartiality. We aim to have broad appeal free from commercial political and religious affiliations or pressures.

We are looking for two Senior Presenters to present daily Radio Lifeline programmes in Arabic for audiences across the Middle East and the North Africa region.

Main responsibilities

You will assist in producing and editing content while contributing to the planning of audio output materials. You may need to adapt scripts and running orders on air to unfolding situations as directed by the Senior Journalist Team Manager (SJTM) or the Assistant Editor (Asst Ed).

Additionally you will help produce and present specialist content as segments of programmes and share material with the wider BBC. Collaboration is expected on a daily basis as part of the Lifeline programme distribution efforts as well as conducting interviews when needed.

You will also:
Generate ideas and stories contribute to creative treatments and provide clear proposals ensuring consistency in content quality and accuracy
Interview BBC reporters local specialists advocates political figures and policymakers to elicit information and fill gaps in stories
Research script and produce output content that meets high journalistic standards while fully adhering to BBC Editorial Guidelines
Utilize new technologies particularly developments in social media to effectively deliver journalism to audiences setting an example by learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods
Liaise closely with BBC Arabic departments to ensure output material is distributed efficiently duplication is avoided and best practices are upheld
Provide regular advice on news developments guidance on agency or newspaper stories and briefings on relevant government policies
Build and maintain diverse contact lists and databases compiling and distributing information to team members
Provide timely specialist and assured news coverage and analysis of events of interest to BBC audiences
Maintain an organised approach to work with the ability to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Carry out all duties in accordance with the BBC Health and Safety policy

Are you the right candidate

A full command and uptodate knowledge of spoken and written modern standard Arabic and a complete understanding and command of written and spoken English
Has an accomplished presentation style built up through training and lower level presenting roles which is fluent and engages the viewer/listener
Experience of presenting live newsbased content as a presenter correspondent/reporter or contributor
Experience in working in teams in producing live and prerecorded Lifeline and newsbased content
Thorough understanding of production methods used in BBC news and adaptability to new media
Developed or specialist knowledge of the subject area being covered with an understanding of the broader context of individual stories
Balanced and unbiased judgment based on a thorough understanding of BBC Editorial Guidelines target audience program objectives and departmental goals
Proficiency in broadcast and computerbased technology staying abreast of developments in the field
Strong teamwork skills and the ability to build relationships with key individuals across the BBC
Commitment to improving diversity within the BBC and understanding how individual differences can enhance the Corporation
Ability to convey story and program ideas and contribute fully to the planning process
Flexibility and adaptability to maintain performance under pressure while meeting deadlines and adjusting to changing priorities
Understanding of health and safety procedures as they apply to broadcasting
