Regional Secretary - Arab World

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Regional Secretary Arab World will play a pivotal role representing the ITF across the region working with affiliated unions and partners and engaging with leaders activists and members to advance the rights of transport workers and advance workers power across the global union movement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and executing priority areas of work including campaigns projects and other activities under the direction of the ITF General Secretary and in close cooperation with colleagues across the ITFs global secretariat. This role will play a fundamental role in promoting the ITFs activities and interests as well as fostering leadership activating our affiliated unions and leading solidarity support for ITF affiliates across the region.

The Regional Secretary will have operational accountability for the Arab World office and will be responsible for driving operational efficiencies that support the ITFs core objectives to grow and activate our membership influencing global and regional policy and campaign more innovatively in order to win for our affiliates and their members.

ABOUT YOU

This is a senior leadership role leading the ITFs Arab World region. In order to apply for this role you must possess demonstrable experience in the trade union movement nationally or internationally with extensive experience at a senior leadership level developing implementing and winning campaigns and leading projects and activities that advance workers interests and their rights.

Applicants must have an authoritative understanding of political and social landscape of the Arab World region and its geopolitics and diversity.

This job requires a high level of discretion and the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships. The successful candidate will have significant experience and need to clearly demonstrate their ability to work effectively in a highly sensitive complex environment and display their negotiation bargaining and conflict resolution skills. Significant experience delivering membership growth will also be highly desirable.

We are looking for a strategic thinker who can balance the shortterm demands of the job with the longterm aspirations of the ITF and its affiliated union towards building the power of organised labour in the transport industry.

The Regional Secretary will be required to undertake regular international travel.
